30,000 have fled in last 72 hours

Any Non-US people see this news? 30k Chinese have fled the Philippines in last 72 hours...
US Media is blacking this out...as far as Google is concerned.

Anyone know whats up? I saw it in an to be un-named Asian news wire service...

I know there is dispute going on over fishing vessels and territory claimed by China. I am asking about something NEW.

EddyTheDog 04-15-2012 11:15 PM

The problem with things like this once they reach a certain mass - ie 30K +++ people must know whats going on - They can't be swept under the carpet - Especially these days.

Is there a Chinese holiday coming up?

Big sale on egg rolls somewhere?

Captain Kawaii 04-16-2012 12:28 AM

Great responses....
I like the egg roll theory...

Peeps in Japan speculate the US was pulled over to west side of Korean peninsula for Kim Jong Dimsum's disastrous waste of money launch...so the Chinese could fuck with PI a little. lol.. Ya, know, see what happens and shit...testing, prodding...

Not throwing out any conspiracy theories here...Just curious as to what the fuck is happening. Have family over there.

Anyone see any articles or radio news about the 30k exodus though?

How can they 'flee' the Philippines? The only way to get out is by plain (or boat, but that is very unlikely). It would be impossible for 30,000 Chinese people to get last-minute flights and all leave within 72 hours. This story is bullshit.

Misleading thread title - I thought 30,000 people fled GFY in the last 72 hours... :winkwink: :helpme

Back story on the photo above:

Quote:

This photo represents the South runways traffic at Sky Harbor on Feb. 24, 2012, between 8:00 and 9:09 A.M.

There are 51 airplanes in this compilation, not including the ones on the ground. There were a couple planes, all general aviation I think, which climbed too quickly to go thru the frame.

I count 7 airlines represented, counting United/Continental as one, 4 bizjets, Turboprops and general aviation planes, a USAF Tanker, and a MD-11 FEDEX.

There is one special livery, the Alaska Idatarod paint scheme.

The dominance of Southwest and USAirways really shows.

This is not handheld shots of 51 airplanes thrown together. I set the camera on a tripod, aimed at the tower, set the lens at 70 mm, focused once and then turned off the AF and stabilization.

When a plane took off, I snapped a few shots of it.

Then in the computer, I took a single shot of each airplane, masked the airplanes, and copied them all into one shot, with the planes in the exact position, relative to the tower as in each original photo.

Nothing super technical, original, or magical, just something for fun.
BTW, I didn't find any news evidence that any sort of mass exodus of Chinese nationals from the Philippines is underway. There had been a ship standoff issue between China and the Philippines over disputed territory, but that was resolved peacefully.

Better re-check your sources. :2 cents:

Didn't read anything about the exodus but the bbc story posted here explains what's up pretty well. I live here and I'm not too worried but for sure am keeping a close eye on it.

The Chinese have their panties in a bunch because of territory they think they own.
