Weird wordpress category slugs?

I've noticed on a couple blogs, wordpress changing the slug urls for categories and adding a -2 to them and I have no idea why.

It isn't doing it on all the category names just a couple but on several blogs.

I had created one called public-flashing for example and now it's mysteriously changed itself to public-flashing-2

Any ideas? My permalink setting is /%category%/%postname%/

:(

this happens if the category was once created, then removed, then added back, its still left over in the db.

same with post creation and page, if i delete about page, then create it again it will be domain.com/about-2/

Matt, this is one of a host of WordPress issues that will make you want to dig into phpMyAdmin and monkey with the database tables.

Odd numbering, multiple draft copies and autosaves, etc. bloat and clog the system, and as you noted, may impact SEO.

Manually trimming the fat can go a long way :thumbsup

um, to be responsible, I'll say be careful:

"Manually trimming the fat the wrong way can go a long way towards killing a site" :winkwink:

On a couple of blogs I get a "0" at the bottom of my archive list.. so it looks like this
December 2009
November 2009
October 2009
0

anyone know what causes it and how to fix it? one of those plugins already mentioned maybe?
