NYC peeps
Question. So, I was thinking of coming to NYC for a few days after Qwebec show.
I really would like to come up to Harlem, see where hip hop started, and get some soul food. However, I am fucking white. Would I get killed or would it be safe? |

Hip Hop started up here in the Bronx, not Harlem. Harlem is pretty safe during the day... depending on how far uptown you venture. For soul food in Harlem, I like Sylvias on 127 & Lenox :thumbsup

The most popular place in Harlem for Soul Food is http://www.sylviasrestaurant.com/
I recommend going to places in lower Manhattan... |

if harlem is not dangerous as hollywood made us believe, which part of NYC is most dangerous for white folk?

When I travel to the darker side of town I always call "Rent A Bro"

Just stay far away from any area that has a housing project :thumbsup it's not about black and white anymore, it's more about wealth and class... |
Just don't go too far uptown and don't get lost in the outter boros. You'll be fine if you stay on the island and below the 130's. Below 103 by night time.

In the last few years, I've played about 100 softball games at various fields in Harlem. I walked a lot of the time, and never had one thing happen to me. So my advice would be "don't start none, and there won't be none".

It's actually quite well known that the birth of hip hop took place in an NYU dorm room right near Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village.
Off the top of my head, the only interesting cultural thing to do up in Harlem is to check out the drum circle in Marcus Garvey park. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/06/ny...pagewanted=all Read this book if you want to learn more about both jazz movements and other interesting pop culture tidbits. http://www.amazon.com/Hip-The-Histor.../dp/0060528176 I don't which neighborhoods are dangerous. |
Black Harlem is fine and has some awesome restaurants. Beware of Spanish Harlem.
|
Don't go there
