-   -   So I called ATT to cancel my cable tv next week... (https://gfy.com/showthread.php?t=1066846)

MK Ultra 05-02-2012 04:16 PM

So I called ATT to cancel my cable tv next week...

...because I'm moving out of state, the guy I was talking to was helpful and friendly, I told him to cancel it on the 14th a couple of times he said no problem, order placed and have a nice day! :)

I turned the tv a few minutes later to watch some news... and nothing.

I kind of laughed, the guy had canceled it immediately instead of on the 14th like I requested.

So I called ATT back to get it reversed, after 30 minutes they tell me they can't, the order is final and there's nothing they can do about it, very sorry.

They tell me they will set up a new account and get my tv right back on for me, sorry please hold just a little bit longer.

After another hour they tell me it's all set up, I won't be charged anything for the new account, oh just hold one more minute please, very sorry for this...

so after another wait they put a technician on with me, very sorry for this but we'll get you fixed right up, please hold for just a few more minutes...

Then the third person I've talked to since this all started tells me they probably can't get a service technician out to my place to do the install any more today since it's after 6:00.

huhh...what? a service technician? it was working fine until you idiots shut it off 2 hours ago. No I don't need a modem I already have one! it was working 2 hours ago!

oh...very sorry about that, just hold on a little bit and I'll try to have that switched on for you, be right back...

sigh:Oh crap

now they tell me it should be on by 8:00.

and no, very sorry, we can't put in a disconnect order for you for next week, you'll have to call back for that.

:eek7

Fuck!!

You have got the same guy that I speak to at VirginMedia here in the UK...

What are the chances?

d-null 05-02-2012 04:27 PM

almost guaranteed that in a month you will get a bill for installation and the month of service, and you will need to spend another half a dozen phone calls on hold to try to correct it, then a month after that you will get a threatening letter saying it is being sent to a collection agent :1orglaugh

fucking useless companies these days, all they are good at is asking for money

I dropped ATT a while back too.

After 8 year of having enough. I said "lets cancel this" and all of a sudden they want to give me the service I originally requested..

Too late for that :2 cents:

Why didnt they just give me the service I requested to begin with?

this story hasn't finished at all.. lol get everything in writing as most contracts for those companies are based on use of service

AT&T and Verizon will never give you anything in writing now ...EVER. They both claim they dont have email or the ability to fax or send snail mail.

"we don't have to care, we're the phone company"

MK Ultra 05-02-2012 05:09 PM

well it's 8:00 and my cable is back on, but it's too late for AT&T, I will never use any of their services again.

And yeah the real test comes next week when I cancel this again

AT&T and Direct TV are two of the biggest scammers on the planet...

Screw the phone company. I think when they had the legally enforced monopoly for so many years the "we don't care" attitude was permanently embedded in their corporate culture. I did call twice to see about getting DSL as a backup to the cable modem. In two different offices, the install time was about six weeks. The cable company turned it on in an hour or so.

thats fucked up. i would dispute the charge with them on it.

Comcast did that to me when I was moving to a new location. I called them two weeks ahead of time and they cancelled it the next day. when I moved the idiot never showed up to setup my cable and I had to wait another week... on top of it they charged me $150 for instal.

I asked if I could pay with my Amex and when they said "sure" I knew I was getting that money back.

And the companies are so huge that they can afford to treat customers like they do...
