What is the Flash Alternative for cartoon animation?

I keep hearing this stuff about Flash becoming obsolete because of the iphone and ipad. I'm curious what programs compare to Flash as far as cartooning or animation goes? Especially programs that can import and work with layered vector files like illustrator and photoshop files raw.

If its just an animation you can export it as a mov file then convert to html 5 formats.

You can do some stuff with html5 but it isnt perfect yet.
People are starting to make some cool things with it though already:

You can also animate in after effects using multiple layers in 3d space + cameras.

There was a program called Moho, but I think it now called Anime Studio.

Very interesting thanks for sharing these.. I think flash will be fine for a long while on non-mobile at least

smutnut 05-05-2012 06:24 PM

Yeah, I mean this stuff is great but have any of you ever tried Flash for like South Park style stuff? It's like a no brainer if you understand adobe programs like Photoshop and Illustrator. So I will ask again or in case I didnt really ask the first time.

Do you all think Flash is dead in this department? Just curious

test with FF and IE to see the difference.
I'm getting tired of IE (even for flash it is worse than FF°

Talk about good vs evil.

You really don't think Flash is the best animation program that is compatible with other graphics programs to create the content you need? Nothing anyone posted here makes me think they are better than flash if you are using illustrator or photoshop and what else would or should you be using.

Curious as hell about this.

It doesn't really matter what you create the animation in to play it, but if you know photoshop and illustrator which most designers do, Flash is almost intuitive I think.

Just me I guess.

With that said it's also an EMCA api, so it's a nod of support in their confused mac loving direction. Vector, animation, whatever, it's supreme.
They will simply need to allow conversion of .fla/.xfl > html/js to stay where macromedia put them.

So what's your verdict? I get half of what you are saying, and I say from a creator's standpoint it's a dream come true for internet cartoon crap.

Do you see something beating it out that will be compatible with Illustrator and Photoshop or do you see something taking those programs out too?

Just curious

Future Splash :) Odds on longevity ?

They have a binary browser interface trusted and adopted, a true monopoly.

Go have a close look at Unity and tell me if you see an AMD in it. I don't.

I never said I don't like flash. I love flash. Yeah its awesome but people with apple mobile products won't see them. You just have to... http://edge.ebaumsworld.com/mediaFil...2/82483591.gif
Like I said before if it isnt interactive just export it as a movie then convert it to the diff html5 formats.
Or you can just make it with flash, if it isnt the main part of the site then fuck those guys amirite lol.

pornmasta 05-05-2012 07:28 PM

animated gif = 256 colors= sucks

asdasd 05-05-2012 07:32 PM

mobile users are poor. They are on the fucking bus. Think about it.

Yeah, see I heard that people with iphones and other apple shit are actually downloading plug ins to actually see flash. I mean what is their choice when some things are only flash? That's what made me ask this question actually, and what is apple hoping to accomplish by ostracizing flash creators? Are they trying to do the SONY proprietary thing?

LOL, so keep learning flash and actionscript or move onto another program? What's the verdict? :1orglaugh

barcodes 05-05-2012 08:11 PM

I don't know about recently but you could set them up to view flash before. It was a huge pain in the ass though. I would say keep doing flash shit but maybe look into html5 just in case lol. I really don't think Flash is going anywhere anytime soon but it's good to be prepared anyway. nintendo.com, ford.com and others have flash as main parts of the site. if you visit thefwa.com you'll see flash is still very alive.

Just sayin it may be good to read up on it over time. I initially started giving you alternative options because that's what I thought you were looking for.
