From a few people I've heard from, more often than not the guy with the cam ISNT in the back row...

He's in the projection booth...

Which old school AMC is that picture from?
Wait until you get new school AMC. Fancier. Even screens with leather recliners, food and booze. All at the touch of a button. Don't forget to bring lots of cash or an AMEX Black Card.
You're going to pay dearly for not being a pirate.

AMC is going to replace all theatres with megaplexes that have food & liquor. You don't notice the over-priced drinks like you notice a $10 box of popcorn.
Example - only bar I know that charges for Vermouth in a Martini. Then again I only drink Martinis while watching 007.

This is the only way I see a movie in a theater ipictheaters

Really hate to say anything bad about AMC. I worked 20 years as a contract accountant. If you have to be an employee, AMC is the place to work.

I probably contracted out to 100+ companies over 20 years. No major corporation treats their employees as great as AMC. Only one or two small companies did as good.
Nothing like seeing Quantum of Solace, day before it comes out, eating a buffet and drinking Martinis, out of real Martini glasses, not plastic, all paid by AMC.

Why is it paying dearly for not being pirate? Sounds like they are taking it to an upper level. Like restaurants I can eat at McDonald's or ruths Chris I'm not paying more at Ruth's because someone stole.

ipic has 9 theatres AMC has over 400+ just in the U.S. much easier to run 9.

AMC has sort of the same. But no chef or great wine list. However, the screens with recliners, you get table service and the number of seats are very small. Perhaps 100. Reserved/assigned seating.

AMC is going to split all theatres into thirds. If you still have an AMC or Loews single or twin kiss it goodbye over the next few years.

1-Old style theatres
2-seats with counters in front of you for food & drink. Must be 21 or accompanied by parent
3-super luxury with recliners, servers for food & drink. Limited seating, no one under 21 allowed.

If you live small town, they still do film. As fast as they can, major theatre chains and movie production companies are going digital. Mom & Pop theatres in small rural towns will only have the choice of playing the movie off a DVD or die.

A business has to make a profit to survive & grow. Piracy in porn or mainstream is killing the business. So to make up the lost revenue, mainstream has jacked the prices. Same as retail charges extra since people shoplift.

Now some charges get built in but for no reason. Credit cards are an example. Since the processor charges 2-5% retailers bump the prices 2-5% or more. However, credit/debit cards actually save them money. One is less employee theft as there is less cash to steal and many small businesses pay for their bank to deliver/receive cash & coins. Big businesses "don't pay," but banks build that into the fees somewhere.

Both McDonalds & Ruth Chris factor in a theft amount in every product sold. Every motel & hotel factor in an amount of theft into your bill. Employee or customer, if your accountants don't factor this into your Cost OF Goods you better fire them.

Good thing that I've got both :thumbsup
This one is getting upgraded now actually. The room I sat in had new leather seats (not cushy like a la-z-boy, just new...) that reclined a bit.
New soda fountains that you serve yourself, and has a bunch of different flavor syrups for the base sodas (coke, sprite, fanta, etc etc...)

Here's a business idea:

The new UltraAVX theatres here in Montreal have assigned seating, that you pay for online via credit card. Install a couple of night vision cameras & computers in the theatre. The computer can run software that can detect the tell-tale signs of cellphone or camera use and ignore the rest. The flagged video can easily contain seating meta data. Tie the data with date & time, and you have the ticket buyer's name and credit card info. Now there is ample evidence for an arrest, fines and prosecution.

Turn this into a service that can monitor hundreds or thousands of movie theatres at the same time and charge a fee. Even better license it to movie companies who can add additional meta data into their movies that will tie the exact print (or digital fingerprint) of the movie at that time. This way they know exactly what movie at which theater was ripped. They already "watermark" movies with the names of people they give prints to for post production. They could do the same for each individual digital theatre. They could force each theatre to comply with these anti-piracy techniques and voila! Instant cash.

ottopottomouse 05-05-2012 10:30 PM

what happened to cinemas installing special lights that blind digital cameras?

garce 05-05-2012 10:36 PM

yay. cool.

kane 05-05-2012 11:11 PM

I'm sure if anyone who is recording the movie simply tells these guys they are timshifting it to their house all will fine.

BIGTYMER 05-05-2012 11:54 PM
