How important is the google + in the SERPs?

Do you think it's going to have more of an important role moving forward?

semi-on-topic: from all social media platforms I've ever tried, Google plus is without a doubt the most confusing and least intuitive.

on-topic: it's one more bit of information Google can use to guess how much people favor 1 site as opposed to another that has similar content.

I rank good for some very competitive terms without a single plus one.

I believe they're of the utmost importance.

I'm not saying you have to like google +. I'm just saying the way google is flexing it's muscles. I think google + will start to be more important moving forward.

it will put your site on number 1, Mike.

so yes, go to those blackhat forums and buy 1000+ plus one from indian resellers..

Mike, what happened to NYLS, NIELS, WIELCO? They dissapeared form the business and ROSS doesn't say anything.

Man, 90% of my ICQ list is OFFLINE 24/7... WTF.

It depends on how large your G+ circles are. Extended circles give you the ability to have great reach and as long as people are logged into G when they do their searches, you will show up. If they are not logged in, it won't matter much as of May 9, 2012.

Who knows what tomorrow will bring.

In my opinion all natural social media mentions are going to hold a lot more weight in the future. How Google is going to determine what constitutes a natural mention is above my pay grade, but it seems to me that this is where search is progressing. Considering Google owns G+ it would be naive to think they aren't going to weigh natural G+ mentions heavily...

u-Bob 05-09-2012 05:40 PM

Of course there's the effect it has on the results for people in your circles, but I'd be careful about overdoing any G-plussing in an attempt to influence 'general'/non-personalized serps. G+'s user base is still relatively small compared to that of certain other social media platforms. So huge G+ spikes when the other platforms are silent about your sites could be seen as unnatural activity...
