Happy American Craft Beer Week (pics)

It is that time of year again, when all the grown up boys and girls are preoccupied with memories of hops, barley, craft beers tried and most especially, the craft beers left to be tried. I am going to do my best to try as many craft beers as I can without destroying my liver and maintaining my clean DUI status. If all goes well, I should end up with some good stuff for CNN and Examiner.

So, how are you planning on celebrating?

The oatmeal stout jumped out at me for two reasons. One, I love a good oatmeal stout; and two being the nitro. I have only just started trying nitro beers and have yet to find one I did not like.

Are those all brewed locally?

Tom_PM 05-14-2012 08:55 AM

Oatmeal stout is kind of like a meal in a glass too.

But seriously, this thread is like torture because I'd like to sample each of those beers.

I'm a big fan of Cigar City Brewing. One of the best things to come out of Tampa in years.

Belgian style ale with a subtle hint of spice clocking in at 10%

Eye popping flavor from a blend of Canadian malted barley, Goldings hops, and a unique flavorful Belgian yeast strain. Serve it up in a goblet or wine glass and remember try and relax!!

Unfiltered, unpastuerized and with just a hint of spice this beer is meant to be savored slowly so as to enjoy the aroma as well as the taste. Vintage dated, excellent now but even finer with 2 years age.

To start off American Craft Beer Week, we headed to the International Boardwalk at the Redondo Beach Pier and stopped in at Naja's Place. Naja's is definitely "dive central" but with 88 beers on tap, mostly craft beers at that, it would be tough to find a better place to start this adventure.

You can see all the photos at http://www.gotbaddog.com/najas-place-redondo-beach/ - A few samples . . .

Buddy of mine Make a beer Called The Raven , Is building a bigger brewery here in Baltimore and going to go national! Keep your eyes out .

Damn, that list of craft beers and pics makes me thirsty. If you haven't visited the Stone Brewery in San Diego, you need to go. It is awesome. Outside gardens and movies in the summer time. The food is yummy and pretty pricey because they use local ingredients.

San Diego is one of the meccas of craft brewers and I didn't realize it until recently.

Here's a book they were selling at Stone San Diego's Top Brewers

I have been to Stone several times (Escondido) and while I enjoy most of their brews; and the facility is quite pleasant, they changed their policy on flights or glasses, or something stupid that caused me to stop going there.

And yeah, I was following one of my FBook contacts (Thirsty Bear Brewing) and they were down in SD doing "research." I saw that they went on a tour bus that went to a few breweries. After visiting the site I decided that was a waste of time, but they did say there were more than 30 craft breweries in San Diego County. Sounds like a couple weekend rides coming up. :1orglaugh

I want a beer that tastes like ginger ale.

Barcade only serves american craft beer. They feature brews from across the country. Summit, the makers of the Nitro Oatmeal Stout are located in Minneapolis.

I didn't realized Stone changed their policy on that and I only had 2 beers there, as the one's I had were pretty potent.

Green Flash Brewery is a must see.
