I've fucking had it with Windows 7 64.. alternatives?

My user account corrupted, winsxs folder is 100000000gb, the file explorer and file search is retarded garbage, and everything about window 7 is fucking annoying. Hell. I can't even select some files and get a size in the status bar, for chrissakes. Not to mention that it won't give me list view default (it keeps forgetting)

I WANT MY XP BACK but I doubt I'd ever find XP 64 bit drivers ... right .. and 32bit won't work as I have 16gb of ram

Does xp have that TRIM for ssds???

How can I go back to XP without fucking myself?????

NaughtyRob 05-15-2012 02:33 PM

Just go Mac.

Shoplifter 05-15-2012 02:41 PM

Sounds like you may have bad RAM.

I run my Win7 rig around the clock with no problems.

Supz 05-15-2012 02:41 PM

i dont have any issues with it. probably user malfunction.

SuckOnThis 05-15-2012 02:42 PM

7 is a hell of a lot more stable than XP.

asdasd 05-15-2012 02:44 PM

words are weird.

seeandsee 05-15-2012 02:45 PM

I have win7 on dual AMD 4800+ and 2gb ram , and i have no problem for many months...

MrMaxwell 05-15-2012 02:49 PM

I don't notice a difference in stability .. Running XP I've had up to thirty days of up-time MANY time.. Running 7 I'm pretty sure that would still be possible ... I just put this machine together a couple of months ago, I think I've had 20 or so days uptime with it??

The ram I texted the piss out of, I also loaded the cpu to 100% and let it sit over night.. etc. . It seems fine in terms of the hardware

Unless the ssd was at fault for my user account getting corrupted.. not sure... It's a Corsair force series 3 SSD... seems to run great.. Ran chkdsk on it which I think is okay to do on SSDs, without /r because as I understand it remapping or defragmenting is pointless since the SSD does all of that and it'd just be stupid to try.... the drive passed chkdsk with no bad sectors

I can get drivers for XP-64 bit!!! Happy christmas time!!!!!

MrMaxwell 05-15-2012 02:51 PM

Windows 7 just seems to get the fuck in the way when ever I'm trying to fucking do anything, anyway.. I could try to replace the file explorer and file search and all of that but fuck it

samadhi_ 05-15-2012 02:55 PM

Install ubuntu and never look back, 12.04 LTS was just released and is rock solid.

You can even install it on a USB thumb drive and give it a test run before making the switch.

Does anyone know if partitioning an SSD is okay? It's properly aligned, as nearly as I can tell, and has two partitions - when I install XP to the second partition, how do I make sure it's properly aligned?

I mean to say- is there a way to check the alignment of each partition?

MrMaxwell 05-15-2012 05:32 PM

Ah

Never mind
Found it

Simple. You can't. Instead of going backwards, fix your system. There is no perfect OS but windows 7 is close to it. You probably just had an app or random glitch that screwed you over. Reformat (which you sold do every 6 months anyways. Find out where the fualts started, check your system error log for hints and whatever is associated to it, do not install again or if its a windows component, google the resolutions and preventions.

All those simple complaints you have are fixable.. google them. Easy things do. 20 seconds, done. Once fresh system up and running with all your apps and whatnot installed, do a norton ghost. Voila. Instant system restore DVD for you. 60 mins top to restore. Drop in disk, set it to restore, go for cruise, come back, done as if the incident never happened.

Keep ALL your non-program files on another hard drive in the computer. Pics, video, documents, user created files, music, everything.

You run a business that relies on your computer, set yourself up for eventual system failure. It WILL happen. Whether it's mac, windows 7, useless XP (will only utilize one core at a time anyways) linux, anything. Doesn't matter, Plan your system smart and make it easy to recover.

My Win7/64U machine runs like a champ 24 hours a day 7 days a week and have no issues. It is the Intel i5-760 overclocked to 3.8Ghz, Asus Z68 Board, 12gig of 1833 DDR3 RAM, 1Gig nVidia Video Card, 2 SATA3 1TB drives, 2 1.5TB External Drives, 7-120mm fans, CoolerMaster HeatSink with 2-120mm fans in Push/Pull configuration. On my previous workhorse cooling was the main issue and made everything run like crap even with XPPro-SP3 but since I built this one 18 months ago its been great. I am fixing to build a Intel i7 3rd gen system with 32gig of 2133 RAM and 2 SSD in Raid 0 and put the old one in theater room :)

My 16 month old niece can install Windows 7

bronco67 05-15-2012 06:43 PM

Works great for most people. It's either Windows 7 or a MAc.

Linux Mint 12.

Or if you're feeling adventurous go with Linux Mint Debian Edition (based on debian testing and is a rolling distribution, meaning you'll never have to upgrade the OS version).

Dual boot windoze for gaming if you have the need to...

You don't even realize your're using one of the tightest operating systems ever created -- so why would you be expected to listen to anyone's advice? Don't you at least think Seven is miles better than Vista or Xp? I guess maybe XP might have selected things better, but it sucked overall.

I would prefer XP as well, but unfortunately don't have XP drivers for most of my hardware...

I haven't had a problem with Windows in years. My new touchscreen uses Win 7, but I don't even remember what my main PC uses. (In my defense we have over a dozen PCs, laptops, and netbooks in our house. I don't keep track of what each one is running.)

v4 media 05-16-2012 12:54 AM

You always seem to have computer problems.

Maybe it's you, not the computer.

that's what im thinking. I went from using xp for years to win 7 64, took only a couple of days of getting used to, never had any problems with it.

HomerSimpson 05-16-2012 04:28 AM

W7 is way better than XP...
I'd say you have a hardware problem...

michael.kickass 05-16-2012 05:54 AM

I find 7 more stable than XP though it's true that it doesn't remember folder views, and that's really annoying, but I don't remember xp remembering my custom views either. :2 cents:

MaDalton 05-16-2012 06:29 AM

the problem always sits in front of the computer

(my experience after years of giving support on various OS)

PR_Glen 05-16-2012 08:49 AM

i hate change more than most people but I have to admit that changing over to windows 7 from xp was about as smooth as a transition as imaginable.. no idea why anyone would ever think about downgrading...

uniquemkt 05-16-2012 09:06 AM

If you're serious about business, you're already running linux on your desktop.
