Many people still having a problem LEAVING XP

There's just something about the XP that makes it the focus of so much loyalty... or is it just hate for Vista? If so, why not just jump to Windows 7? Anyway, time is running out if you're on XP: http://redmondmag.com/articles/2012/...indows-xp.aspx

I'm still on XP, but I'm also about 10yrs overdue for a new computer or two. If I got a machine today, I'd get the latest and greatest OS naturally.

Win 7 or Win 8? Win 8 might be disconcerting, no?

Tom_PM 05-22-2012 02:20 PM

No idea, I've never seen either one in action so whatever is stable.

eroticsexxx 05-22-2012 03:12 PM

I'm running Win 8 beta on my secondary machine and have a win 7 laptop, but my primary workhorse is Windows XP.

Why?

That is all.

I still have several Win XP Pro x64 boxes and I'm not planning to put any other OS on those. I actually bought a few extra licenses in case they ever stop selling those. Best desktop OS Microsoft ever made imho. If it weren't for the DX support (and related stuff), I wouldn't even be running any Win 7 boxes.

Do you have windows updates turned off or something? I'm pretty sure a lot of them require a restart once in a while.

Main PCs = both use XP
Laptop = Win 7 (Not in love with it)

Rochard 05-22-2012 04:43 PM

I don't pay any attention to the OS any more. Windows is windows. My computer plays my games, my music, allows me to do my work, all right out of the box. I'm a hardcore computer geek and used to tweak windows but why bother? Why waste time dicking with stupid shit when you can be working or playing?

SOURFEET 05-22-2012 04:55 PM

Main PC - XP
Laptop - Ubuntu/Win7

anexsia 05-22-2012 04:59 PM

I liked XP but I love Windows 7 even more....have my work computer setup with Windows 7/Debian.

VenusBlogger 05-22-2012 05:28 PM

Tried VISTA in 2007, it sucked and went back to XP.

Now im in doubt about Windows 7... I fear it will suck so much and I will have to waste time going back to XP.

And most people I know are in the same situation, so...

If ain't broken, don't fix it.

Windows is windows? No, you're not a hardcore computer geek.

WOW! Nice!!!!!!!

I really like my XP. Easy to work with and very stable.

uniquemkt 05-22-2012 07:40 PM

XP sure works nicely in a virtual machine, and requires a hell of a lot less resources to be allocated to it. I can run a task-oriented XP VM with 512M and it runs as smooth as can be. Win7 VMs take 2G to do the same tasks smoothly. Still wouldn't run Windows on real hardware though.

The booty pimp 05-25-2012 05:54 PM

xp is outdated..

CYF 05-25-2012 11:16 PM

XP runs great on my netbook, although I have unix on there too. That's my only windows machine though, and I really see no need to upgrade it.

Spunky 05-25-2012 11:20 PM

My old box has it and it's still stable enough

How long will this OS hold out?

Windows 8 looks like a dice roll for MSFT...

crockett 05-26-2012 04:57 AM

I only dumped XP because I need to add more than 2 gigs of ram to my PC. I run win 7 and it's pretty good TBH.

I think a lot of people kept XP as long as they have because it was one of the few M$ OS's that worked well and was fairly cheap on resources while still doing pretty much everything you typically need a OS to do.

Chosen 05-26-2012 05:08 AM

I prever XP over Win7 :pimp

My Win7 let me use only 2,6 GB of 4 GB memory installed...

Mutt 05-26-2012 05:27 AM

got my last computer 2 years ago - Windows 7 was available but the guy who put my box together recommended XP 64 bit so i said ok.

i don't see any need to switch OS.
