Is ACH well known in the US?

Hi guys,

As I'm from the UK i'm just wondering how well known ACH is as a payment method in the US?

Would the everyday american know it as something different?

Thanks

I doubt it.

BIGTYMER 05-24-2012 02:18 AM

It's known but I don't think the everyday American knows it. But I'm sure they all know bank deposit. :)

Yes, we know what it is. It's like a direct deposit or used to pay bills directly through your bank account.

ACH or Direct Deposit

Barry-xlovecam 05-24-2012 04:10 AM

Automated Clearing House (ACH) is both direct debit and direct credit actually. Commercial transaction fees are $0.22 ea at my bank normally the recipient will absorb the fee. e.g.; Online credit card payments, etc. A USA based affiliate program (or one with a USA bank account) could pay USA based affiliates ACH or use a fee for service USA based payment processor to do the same. It is used by domestic USA Federal Reserve member banks -- that is the clearinghouse.

It is just funds transfer between USA (only) Banks.

Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) is similar in nature and scope albeit newer -- ACH has been available for over 10 years in the USA.

It's not LIKE Direct Deposit...it IS Direct Deposit. At least on the incoming.

Incoming to a US customer's account it's known as ACH. Outgoing to a merchant customers would understand it as an online check.

your average american understands ACH as a "direct deposit", but yes most people know what that is.

Supz 05-24-2012 04:31 PM

what CYF said. Most companies pay employees by ACH.

most European countries have had this system for decades, with SEPA they're trying to harmonize those system so you can do it across the continent, instead of just your own country

Yes it is.

I have Verotel, among others, pay me by ACH. Many people working for traditional brick and mortar businesses receive their weekly pay checks by ACH.

:2 cents:

I get my clips4sale by ACH like clockwork.

Ach

The average American knows Direct Deposit or Online Bill Pay, but they are clueless as to ACH or wires,.

Fees for either depends on your bank, how much you have in your accounts and whether it's business or personal.

Anyone on GFY who has a business bank account. Ask your bank if you can do a "Debit Block." Stops scammers from taking money out of you account automatically, just because they know your account number. Only way someone can take money is by court order. Bad news is, you don't know of the court order most times until the money is taken.

Probably people are stupid everywhere, but I worked for a company where the head account had no clue what a wire payment was. The FBI sent us payments by wire and she just ignored them and them we kept calling to get our money. She also didn't know that having satellite Internet like Dish wouldn't require a cable all the way into space.

Its amazing people dont use it more as its soooo much cheaper than a wire.
Wish ccbill would use it.

Fap 06-08-2012 11:57 AM

mikesouth 06-08-2012 11:58 AM
