Ping Speed results, please help

We're changing servers and are testing several ping results.

If a server has a ping result of 175ms avg. And another server 33ms. Does this per definition mean the second server is a lot better to get?

HomeFry 05-25-2012 01:03 AM

Yes. Get the second one. Faster response.

I'm trying to move away from that one, lol.

I guess that is faster since it is nearby (~40kms), whereas the other is overseas, thousands of miles away.

In fact, i am trying to find out if an overseas server will 'hurt' my store's speed much, since we are only talking milliseconds here. Customers will not notice the difference between 1 or 1.001 second, would they?

Please open my eyes.

ping time + serverside processing time affects the page load speed.

Page load time for your major markets is what really matters.
