Facebook smartphone to be 'released next year'
|
Facebook has 0 chance of competing in the smartphone biz.
Will be a deep waste of money and resources. |

I could actually see a few of my friends buying facebook phones. Especially the handful that have windows phones currently.
|
The problem is by next year chances are iphone 5 will be out, plus lots of android phones trying to outdoo galixy.
the question will be is how do they plan on making cash? will it be just selling phone apps via its store?while i can see some may like the idea (if they only use there phone for facebook anyway), i wonder will the nombers make it worth it. will the plan be to sell the phone for next to nothing, but be as powefull as the top end galaxy, but try to make cash via adverts? i am not sure if those who own shares will be excited by this. if the phones flops, then its going to look bad for facebook. again facbook seem to be just consentrating on the social eliment while google is looking at all sorts of markets. to me facbook is seeming to be a one trick wonder. |
one thought is if they go for a cheap phone, then they may get the 'teen' market.
rather than a high end phone, one thats less power but does ok for apps. if it was cheap it could do well on the 'pay as you go' market. on the basis kids would just buy a newer one every 6 months. there is a bit of a gap in the market for a cool phone. at the moment the market is more aimed at those who love gadgets. |
Isn't every phone already a Facebook phone?
The "teen" market is paid for by the parents of those teens. Maybe you meant the "Homeless runaway" market. Facebook is on a fast track to failure. It'll take time - but it will happen. Zuckerberg should have gotten out of it already. |
The world needs another smartphone, because we just don't have enough of them.
Anyway, Facebook will go the way of Myspace within a couple of years so who cares if they make a phone? |
Quality smartphones continue to get cheaper by the year. Not sure why someone would buy a niche smart phone. The Microsoft social phone did terrible, beyond terrible.
|
Count on me NOT buying one.

|
Another fucking idea from this fucking fuckerberg.
|
Sounds pretty dumb.

fuck no.......

The phone itself sounds like a disaster waiting to happen but I don't think FB would die because of it... something would have to be there to take its place and I kind of doubt there would be a mass exodus to G+
|
when GFY will release the smartphones damn!!!!!!!
|
What's the point? We can use other smartphone to access facebook anyways. Or are they going to ban facebook application for all mobile platforms and make it available on their phone only?
|
It's a highly competitive market. Until we know what this phone will be and do, so it can compete. All speculation is useless.
Will be interesting to see how well they function in a market with a lot of established competition. |
i already have fb on my phone, what will they give me extra with that phone???
|
facebook seems to get lost a little bit...

Samsung Android, i saw the new one last night, its big, but so awesome. |
It could work. If they make the service free from user to user, then preload it with a payment method and all those Zynga games.
|
What we need to see is what they develop.
mabe they are working on there own version (as in phone operating system). iphone have a problem in that they have only a few phones (all theres). Android phones have the advantage that there is comentition and so lots, plus we have it on non phones. blackberry is not as cool as it was. if facebook, does a phone that is cheap and easy to use it may do well. BUT its how they expect to make the cash. adverts would anoy me. i have just got a cheap android phone (love it). but some apps have adverts, and to be honest i do not use those apps as i have the tiny advert/banners. what i am thinking they may do, is develop a cheap phone, but charge the operaters a fee (say 20p a month) for facebook use. the fee could be very small but if you sold the phone in huge nombers, that would be a big profit. the thing is, i would suspect a facebook phone to ONLY have facebook use. i suspect it will not have icq or skype or such as it would be seen as competition. after all it said already its app store is for facebook conected things only. |
Two options:
1. FB + RIM = Facebook teams up with or buys RIM to inject new life into their phone line, which has been weak for the past 3 years. The ex-Apple designers that FB hired only have to come up with a decent hardware solution as QNX is a solid OS with huge potential. Established channels of distribution/mobile provision for the phones plus the advantage of the secure BB platform would make this the best option. Add to that the potential licensing of the BB Platform to Android phone developers and Apple and there would be a near instantaneous resurgence of RIM's market share. 2. FB + Microsoft = Facebook and MS already are tied at the hip with Skype and Bing integration. Window Phones already have distribution channels set up, so a partnership in this regard makes sense. Although it must be said that the RIM partnership would be stronger. Windows phones aren't being forecast to have a strong demand this year given that the iphone 5 may be coming out in October. The critics who are pushing that this is the end of FB aren't thinking analytically and are forecasting a worst-case scenario of FB trying to do it all by themselves. Zuckerberg only got $16 Billion out of the IPO, so to create a new phone line from scratch would be idiotic. Zuckerberg didn't get this far by not thinking carefully and thoroughly about his business steps. FB hatred has blinded quite a few pundits and it's showing. |

Maybe they are just going to release a good iPhone app for a change. There's is the absolute worst app. Constantly crashing and causing issues. No to mention how their site cant save cookies or settings. Please god, no!

If they can come up with a few "must have" free apps, or a small charge. That only work on the FB phone, then there's a chance of it doing well. Plus they have to keep bringing them out on a continual basis.
If it's a phone that does little more than the existing selection, it won't make a lot or even lose money. |
YEah, um... no.
|
Would I buy one? .. Nope. Makes senses to me why FB been going after the opera browser.
Could they FB want the browser just for the Opera Mini / Opera Mobile browser side of the browser technology. What other reason would they want Opera. OPERA / FB Story |
retards suck dicky
