Video Producers - are you using a tripod?
I have been on several sets.
Playboy Naughty America various gonzo / glamour some video shooters swear by a fluid head tripod. personally i shoot everything hand held, no brace etc and with a LED video light onboard and ext mic. its a heavy rig... some of the dynamic pros or shooting handheld is ruined by the heavier rig. what do you do and why? |
Probably depends on the style of content you are shooting?

I've never seen a porn shoot done with a tripod.
When I first started in porn as male talent...the company shot two shoulder mounted real film cameras (mid 1990's) One was for the hardcore shots...the other for the "soft" version that went on cable. When Claudia Marie did her first porn scene ever in 2007 it was for Naughty America. Brett Brando was the shooter. One Panasonic video cam hand held. The next time she shot for NA was 2009. Different shooter. Single vidcam handheld. Last time she shot for them in 2010...Different shooter. Single vidcam handheld The only time I would imagine anyone on a porn shoot using a tripod would be for shooting video with a DSLR camera because of focus issues...or if they got tired and wanted to set the camera down for a while! lol |
The only time we ever use a tripod is when we shoot video fan signs.

always film pov and i use a tripod for about 15-20 minutes in my scenes. though my scenes are usually very long some exceed 2hrs. the only time i use tripod is for when its impractical to do it POV due to shakeyness or needing 2 hands for all the ass in front of me. if you look at the trailers on toticos you often see the girls reaching to adjust the camera and bend into frame. i think there is a practical use for tripods, at least i found one for them.

I only use a tripod for exgf style.

Seems like a monopod would be a good idea in a situation like this.
I love my Manfrotto fluid heads (501, 701) and tripods, so I picked up one of these and have used it quite a bit. http://www.fullcompass.com/common/pr...nal/100870.jpg |
I use a monopod and/or a crane like that one.....depending on the size of the shooting location!

just depends on what you are shooting, sometimes you need "sticks" other times you dont...intro, static, b-roll, establishing, story, etc its just part of your arsenal of equipment you should have but dont use on every shoot & Rob that was a fun/great shoot too!

fucking with a helmet cam on... who has done this. a little vixia with a wide angle and lens hood already freaks out most of these girls. i can imagine what a helmet cam would do

it depends...

I used one in the old days. Customers loved the effect that it was just them and the girl, with the girl performing for them by talking to him.
Used a mono pod and they're great. Also read there's now a steady cam for smaller cameras. Always found keeping a small camera steady harder than keeping a big one steady. |
Tripods are great for static outside shots, before moving in to a POV or hand-held. They are also great for slowly zooming out from a close-up view, or panning the whole scene, but use a fluid head unless you want a real amateur feel. Oh yeah first post here, GFY everyone! :1orglaugh
