Sort of noticed that too. I assume they did it as they left.

The show is getting farther and farther away from the books, so the people who burned it down in the books may not be the same ones who burned it down in the show... The entire 'kidnapped dragons' storyline and the way they portrayed the house of the undying on the show was entirely different from the books for example. Two separate stories are emerging in the same world with some shared milestones.

Yeah, I noticed that too. Everything you just said, plus...

Even army in the North and Jon Snow's double agent thing (not clear like it was in the book) and no Ghost, etc. etc. about all the story lines. But I did like the white walkers even though I don't remember that at the end of the second book, but it's been a long time.

How can you post such a huge spoiler in a thread title? Because of motherfu***rs like you im not visiting gfy before I watch an episode.

My prediction is they are going to do what they do with every television series by saying fuck the original stories and killing off actors people don't like or who ask for too much money. They have already sort of fucked up the imp's storyline a little too much, or at least it looks like they are going to.

I hate you... im not even reading nay of this but have a little more courtesy with your titles. Not everyone watches right away! Im actually turning it on now and reading GFY as i sit down... but god damned you!

I haven't read the books, but it sounds like they will be making major turns away from the book per season format.

I saw an interview with the guys that run the show and they said that starting in season 3 they are going to combined books 3, 4 and 5 and do them all at once. They say that all three books cover events that are happening at the same time so they want to cover everything as it happens. I also agree with you that they might add in stuff for popular characters and either cut down or remove unpopular people.

I learned long ago if it is a show you care about and don't want spoiled and it is sometimes mentioned on GFY, never come here until you watch.

I have had a few show endings ruined by threads with the spoiler in the title.

I actually brushed that off as the raiders who left must have burned it down, but just the question makes my mind start thinking again. I always know not to just assume things when watching good movies/shows but then I always end up doing it again. Love the show/never read the books.

In the book there was a battle and Theon's people got reinforcements and they burned down Winterfell

And then they turned on Theon and chased him away if I recall. Which can't happen now. Also I don't remember those white walkers showing up yet (do you?) even though they were awesome cool.

The creators did say they were rearranging things differently

P.S. how do 20 men burn down Winterfell with all those guys waiting to kill them outside. The 500 never came unless that changed and we will learn that next season.

I liked that British run when they were grabbing up the kids for the aliens. That was some of the creepiest shit I ever saw at the end when you found out what the aliens were doing with them, but I thought Starz fucked it up when they got it.

Yes, but Robb wouldn't burn Winterfell. I don't even understand how Theon was holding it with only 20 guys when his sister left. Robb sent back part of his army, and to begin with the only reason Theon stood a chance in the beginning was that Bran sent too many men to defend that Northern place that was attacked (remember?). I mean in the cable series. Not the book.

Ramsey Snow turns up in the books but it doesn't mention that Theon gets betrayed by the Ironborn.

Theon basically disappears for a season now so you may or may not see him.

but also the dragon thing could have been a lot better. No white walkers yet, and ghost helped Jon with a clear plan, right. Not to mention the imp set up that whole new marriage arrangement with Joffery, correct? Are all these things correct or is my memory totally fucked?

Makes me wonder if they plan to leave Ramsey and the whole Reek storyline out of the television version of the story...

I was really wondering who burned down Winterfell myself...... it did not really make any sense within the context of what was shown in the last episode.

Even bigger question. Did Arya ever get Needle back? Can't remember if it was on one of the dead guards or not?

Admitted that the whole storyline in Qarth was lightweight and I've read that it just was not part of the books. But there was an obvious reason driving the script writeres: the Khalissi is a character incredibly popular with the viewers for obvious reasons, and they wanted to keep her role and a storyline about her prominent in this season for the viewers. What they concocted for her seems like a silly fairy tale compared to the authentic plotlines.

About the final days of Winterfell, I'm confused. It looked to me like Theon got killed. An arrow in the back. From the plot summaries I've read, in the book, he got knocked unconscious so that his soldiers could trade him for their freedom on their way out the gates. I can't understand any motive to destroy it except by those who could not hold it permanently but wanted to deprive anyone else from an ability to use and exploit it. It's a good question, and it seems to me that if it was done intentionally, it must have been the contingent of Ironmen. But in the confusion of their brutal occupation of Winterfell, it could have started by misadventure or accident. The shot on TV showed it smoldering, not burning. I suspect that the mood of that visual and what it says is more important than how the fire started.

Winterfell got burned down by the sadistic bastard son of Bolton (Ramsay Bolton) who takes Theo as prisioner and keeps him alive so he can brutally torture him for fun.

I cant believe the amount of spoilers in here but it is Ramsay. In the show Roose Bolton tells Robb that he is sending his Bastard to Winterfell. Since they probably didnt want to introduce so many characters this year they left this tiny part out. I would be shocked if they did not show what happened when they introduce him next season.
