Go do some quick research on a method called , "The Dogs of the Dow."

I'm currently studying, and it makes a lot of sense. We're in cash right now, saving up for the next bull run. When things bottom and look like they'll be going up we'll buy in. You couldbuy in now, and get in while everything is rock bottom, but a lot of people don't have that kind of mentality.

I suspect the next bull run is going to be a long time coming.

And when it does... will you be ready?

I follow the market daily. I'm always ready.

But this is not looking good... looks like the DOW just formed a double top and is on the way down...

Uncertainty is not a good thing for the market.

Bull runs need market confidence. Things are pretty gloomy at the moment.

for small caps:

personally, i would not go out on a limb on any one investment strategy like "dogs of the dow", especially now when the "non-dogs" are also trading at historically low multiples...

Very hard to pick a bottom...I would wait for some confirming market signals before buying into any rally.

FlyingIguana 02-12-2003 05:02 PM

if you're investing for the long term i would get in now. if you wait till after the war, the market will have already started going up, depending on how long the war lasts.

Never try and catch a falling knife.

Ouch!

The DOW is going to go under 7000.

if you wait for a bottom, you miss out on the best gains. i highly doubt we're at a bottom, but we could be.

Look into really big, established, profitable companies that pay dividends. Try MO [Philip Morris aka Altria - div payout is around 2.70] RJR [RJ Reynolds Nabisco - div payout is over $3 ] or GM [General Motors div payout is $2 ]

You can also try investing in insurance companies and reinsurers.

I used to trade in tech stocks before the Dot Bust, now I just follow Warren Buffett's advice--pick a solid company and HOLD for a long time.

Good luck!

GM was hit with a "sell" today by a major analyst. I like this strategy but only if you think we are in a longer term sideways market, as if the market is at/near bottom - it is not the dividend stocks that make major runs (in general) if the market is soon to move up again. But, I will gladly take the income/dividends while waiting out a new bull market.

Invest in bond funds for now....sure its a low yeild but better than a loss...

Wait till the war....once stocks plummet (which they will during a war) the buy buy buy! There will be i tidy little post war bump in the market once the war ends then sell sell sell!

No easier way to make cash (porn excluded)

good luck!
