re: Logo Contest

I'll be needing a new logo and really like the contest idea rather than just hiring a graphics designer and hoping for the best. But it looks like some people who request logos don't play fair and cheat the winner. Should I put the money, (I'm thinking $100) in an escrow account, or is there any way GFY Admin can disburse it? Also, what if I can't use any of them - do I still have to pay anybody?

You can request changes.
In my experience, yes, you have to pay :)

I just love contests !!!!
Please, post your conditions and specification here or on another thread. We hope you won't be cheater , so the escrow account may not be necessary - you can announce that you paid the winner and he on his behalf to confirm he/she has the money.

About the fact you don't want or cannot use any of them - no offence, but that won't be the problem of the designers who will take part. You better not do any contest. The idea of the contest is that the winner will take something and you get the best from the competition. In my opinion you don't need competition, you need to hire a logo designer who should do the thing according your needs. I also think that in competition the winning logo should stay as it is - it's not a service - but a showing of skills - no changes or modifications should be done.

Check Loreen - she's pretty awesome in doing logos and other stuff - check her site - and you will be able to ask for changes or modifications - that will be the same with every designer you're about to hire.

I will take a part of competition though - if you announce that.

Cheers,
M.

Designers hate crowd sourcing and the ones worth their salt won't do it at all.

GFY contests are fun and it's not all about the direct money that you receive at the end of the contest :)

mavruda, thanks!

I agree to Loreen - contests are not about the money
PS: I also love her work!

You could get 20 logos on fiverr for $100. Choose one of them.

J. Falcon 06-18-2012 05:55 AM

Logo contests are so dumb.

The last design contest I won earned me about $3,500 in work from new clients that seen my design.

I've used a number of these contest sites and have always gotten a great final product each time.

No problem Loreen!

And yes contests are for showing skills and abilities, but to show them you have to have at least some stimulus. Money is good one. Contest is the place where you can see how the rest of the designers are thinking and a way to "synchronize your watch" along with the rest - to see where is your place comparing to the others. Prize at the end is recognition that you ARE having skills.

Olympic games are on same principle - some says: Important is the participation - and I would say the same if someone else wins the $100. The winner may not only get the 100 bucks, but may get some additional purchases, sponsorship, offer for a job - attention in basic. The good way.

I won't mind if the prize is gfy t-shirt, but I doubt that they will send it over....:2 cents:

Unfortunately most gfy guys think the same way - that's why there's no contests in here. People here are aiming to the pragmatic side of the things like : I need logo - I'm paying $30 for it tops. And there is like 10 guys who are jumping with better offers:

-2 logos for those money
-5 logos for 10 bucks all etc.
-your logo for 10 bucks and handjob/with prostate massage.

But at least such thread would make a good variety from the hate threads that comes up lately.:2 cents:
