Off to give Blood...
 

I do this in the beginning of summer every year. They say there are more accidents and people in need of blood in the summer months. If you don't give blood it's a good time to start.

If you have had male/male sex in the last 12 months you can not donate in the UK - Until last year it was a complete ban if you had ever had sex with another male - Oral or anal.

Who cannot donate blood?
Permanently Deferred:
People who:

* Have had hepatitis at age eleven or older.
* Have received chemotherapy or radiation for the treatment of cancer.
* Are at high risk of contracting the HIV virus/AIDS.
* Due to current concerns with bovine spongiform encephalopathy and new-variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, blood centers are deferring donors who spent any cumulative period of 3 or more months in the United Kingdom from 1980 through 1996. Please consult your regional blood center regarding other possible deferral policies.

Wow that's crazy they can test it for everything nowadays so I don't get it.

That is why they need blood that is safe from donors such as you more than ever. You rock TA! :thumbsup

I'd happily give blood, but my bloods alcohol percentage may be to high...

I even got a SMS the other day saying that the blood I gave 2 weeks ago just rescued a person from death.

They mark all blood coming in with bar codes on the bags and when it's used, it's "checked-out" of the blood bank and when it's "checked-in" to the surgery room the system will send out a SMS to let me know that it has come to good use.

That's great and makes the point of why it's so important. I was in a horrible car accident back in 92, I should have died but lived because of the blood I received I didn't. That's the main reason I go and donate.

Probably worried people might catch the gay from it rather than everybody ending up with Bad AIDS :upsidedow
