Newb looking for help with new site
Howdy,
I've done a bit of this and that and manage to get a small affiliate check from ccbill each month. I recently started a Frankenstein Site that is currently more of a personal blog but I am working towards having a paid members only area and doing live cam shows for members. I'm using WordPress for my Content Management System and planing on using s2member for billing / content restriction. I have also settled on VideoWhispers Live Broadcast with WordPress integration for the live shows and I have a slick little JVC HD camcorder and am learning Vegas Pro 11 for making videos. I have five read to go videos that are currently on my blog and xtube. But I have not paid for s2member of VideoWhisper yet. Although I do have a ccbill merchant account ready to go. Planing on skipping Visa for now. My site is blogs.worldtribes.net/gearup My first question is, how dose this sound so far? Am I on the right track or in over my head? Thanks guys. |
Hey,
Your site looks nice. You also seem to know what you're doing.. at least for a starter. However you forgot the most important detail, a good domain name ;) nobody would get a subscription with an url like that I think. Good luck with your business |
Thanks SoulTaker.
There is reason behind the domain oddness. But your point is a new perspective for me. If the domain turns out to be a real limiting factor I could move to gearup-gettoff.net within an hour +dns propagation time with proper redirects from the current URL. I'm curious if others think the domain is a factor in converting visitors to paid members. When content is king, traffic is god and users are ignorant who cares? |
Well from webmasters perspective, one would never buy anything from a "shady" domain I think.
However users are much more aware these days to look at the url before buying. I'd say it comes from all Paypal/bank email scams, where you click a fake url. Banks etc. have thought users to always look at the url, and when it looks odd they generally don't trust it. |

Could you imagine this conversation taking place? "Dude, that is an amazing television! Where'd you get that at?" "Well I have a tribal.net/~amazonwebstore435 Prime membership so I ended up getting free shipping AND no taxes... sweet deal..." From a branding perspective... the brand language means a lot in terms of conveying the over-all quality of the product to the consumer. You need to create a brand that not only conveys what you're selling, but is also short, memorable... and catchy. And it needs to look good when it's typed out. Look at some of the domains I own... this is the type of naming convention you should go for: TwinksNextDoor.com GhettoThugs.com TwinkCasting.com ThugCasting.com HairyCasting.com PissPeep.com You need preferrably a 2 word name without a hyphen, and it needs to be a .com to be most memorable. You gotta get creative with it... but this will have a big impact on the bottom line. |
+1 to domain name. I can not remember your domain name and I just read it. That is a big problem if you want me to come back to your site!
I have never paid for Porn, but there has been sometimes that I would of. I really am interested in the interaction between the site subscriber and the site content provider. For example, Daily Blog Updates on what the girl is upto, requests for specific content. One great idea I saw was starting a Girl on softcore then progressing her into toys, then into harder and harder content! Would be a blast to see how she grows up in the industry. I think as a content provider, your content will be pirated, so you will want to offer subscribers a personal packaged experience... One they can not get from a subscription based service! |
