Common TOS violation question...
Well, on the surface this is obvious. But what if you run a blog and you've got banners all over the place, link trades, entrance consoles, exit consoles... and you've got site's images on your blog, with their links prominently placed. Large blogs have 50 billion ads all over the place, and most of them are NOT leading to the site that provided the content. Technically you are using their images to promote other sites... the surfers you're attracting to your site using their content are coming in and ultimately finding other sites content. So where is the line drawn exactly? Are they saying on the pages the images are placed, you need to strip off all other links except for those leading to the site the content is from? Or are they simply saying "don't link XYZ's content to ABC's site"? Or am I totally over analyzing this and should just get back to work...

I've completely avoided ever putting other ads on same page I use promo content, but everything I build passes markup validation so that gives you an idea of how anal I am.
If I had to make a guess I would say that as long as the programs link is prominent and near the content most would not have a problem with various other advertisements being visible. ...and yes this thread does seem like a sign of your brain going "how can I avoid working right now". Might I suggest refreshing stats over and over; Same effect with less typing. |
Your not using their content to promote another site. Your using their content to promote their site. It just so happens to be that it's your blog (or whatever) and you can put up whatever else you want. So long as that image or video has a link that lead to their site your fine.
If a program tells you otherwise, use a different program. |
You are over analyzing. Over the years, I think I've seen that situation happen once. The sponsor in question is no longer around.
|
Unless it's just something outrageous like watermarking another sponsor onto a vid or pic, I don't think it's that big of an issue for most.
|
Use common sense. Look at the page from their perspective. If it was YOUR content being used that way, worlds you be cool.with it?

I am particularly sensitive about the way my content is used, but not to the point of having a detrimental effect on the bottom line. I was trying to determine just how literally the rules are typically applied... but it sounds like I just need to relax and focus on getting the job done. |
You can't win... I have been removed from a few programs for using a only sponsors promo content and promoting solely their site, but because the promo site looked too much like their site they felt I was trying to make out I was them?
