The Stanley Cup comes to Hermosa Beach (pics)
 

As is the norm, when people from cold places get traded to LA, they move to the beach. Such is the case with LA Kings center, Jarret Stoll. Even though this isn't his day to play with The Cup, he did escort it to Hermosa on its way to Manhattan Beach for the day. They had a big rally and about 5,000 are estimated to have shown up.

Best Sport In The World

Weve known each other for a couple years now and he came up to me on the ice and gave me a big hug It was great. What a great guy. Always says hi and takes time to chat. Always gives me advise on the game

ha - that's bizarre, Lord Stanley never imagined the Cup would be on a beach in Southern California.

They had a rep with the NHL Hall of Fame or something that travels around with the cup every years for 10+ years. He said this was definitely different than anything he had experienced before.

That little stretch of sand between Hermosa and Manhattan to the North is magical... I used to rollerskate from Venice to Hermosa and there are places along there where the hottest women sunbathe topless and can do so without starting a riot. Fond memories.

That area is so awesome. I used to live in Redondo Beach. Hermosa, and Manhattan = TONS of hotties.

I won't bother posting pics here as the chicks are not all GFY supermodels, but damn, it is hard to photograph events around here without making it look like all I am doing is shooting cute girls.

As far back as I can remember and that's over 30 years the young single guys on the Kings have lived in Manhattan Beach. Billy Harris who was a King in the 70's, had a bar in Manhattan Beach called Harry O's, i'm sure it's long gone.

and Harry O's is still there. I know I have a pic, but I would not no where to start looking.

i saw a couple of properties on Malibu Beach for sale for 900K, seemed cheap to me to live right on such a famous beach.

most of the team now live right there on the border of hermosa and manhattan beach.
their home bar is now "NorthEnd"...

The North End used to be my hangout when it was called Critters (and the Raiders hung out there). Cute chicks pretty much waited until midnight to venture in, now it seems to always have them

The Cup will enjoy it's usual colder climate next year. ;)

Perhaps when Stoll brings it there for a visit.

The Stanley Cup has two guys that are assigned to watch over it for life. When they don't want to do it anymore or one of them dies the other guy picks another. It is their job and the cup has its own trust fund to pay them and for its care, traveling expenses, etc...

Back in 1947 the trusties of the time elected to cede control of the cup to the NHL. Now the NHL pays for engraving, repairs, etc, and decides who ultimately wins the cup. Before there was one major hockey league the trusties would have decided which league ultimately had the best team. "All of hockey" have not always felt confident in their decisions. Especially when the home league didn't have its best team win.
