Dating site owners: Should I block surfers using proxy servers from accessing my site?
 

It seems like the members using proxy servers are the biggest pains in the ass. People coming from Ghana, China, Philliphiones.
They cause problems, spam other members, they NEVER buy a membership. SO theyre a headache who brings me nothing.

Would I be making a mistake to block people using proxies from accessing and registering on my site?

Proxy detector won't stop them. You can try obviously anyone using a detectable proxy isn't worth your time.

I am suspicious of the type of site you are running.

I'm guessing they use certain proxy servers that make them look US based. They then spam members with links regarding something along the lines of dating,cams, porn related that they can profit from.

Set up scripts that filter most of these people out or ban the proxies.

I would ban anyone using free proxies then, which is probably the only thing you'll be able to easily detect...

Add a complex math equation that needs to be solved... combined with an extremely complex HTML 5 puzzle. And then once the math problem and the puzzle are completed, then require they enter a code that you send a US based cell phone via SMS that needs to be redeemed within 30 seconds. That'll keep the spammers away. ;)

Mostly they post fake profiles with fake pictures and lure other members on to Yahoo chat
Then pretend to like the member and gain their trust.
Then they ask for money

It's been happening for years and some members do send money

I know an older man that I met, I gave him access to my yahoo dating account and he got some dates. He said about some Russian girls wanting him to send them money and he though about it, made me sick.

You must have a system setup to do a quick review of all the incoming traffic and messaging. Whew! what a nightmare.
