Awful McDonald's Ad from the 70's Made For Blacks
Can you say "talking down to your market"? Sheesh!

What if it was written by an African-American ad agency? Would that change any of the dynamics?

I feel like that copy would make more sense with white families?
It does read as condescending for a black family tho. It's good copy tho... Really good selling points about McDonalds for it's time.. Maybe we are too sensitive now? |
lol, that ad is hilarious.

I read his works at Berkeley for my course on racism and American cinema. |
Pretty sure McDonalds saying is "I'm LOVIN'" it not IM LOVING IT. I personally dont see anything race driven here.
|
I actually think the ad has a "cool edge".
However, this type of stereotyping misses the mark because it only focuses on a segment of the black community. Many intelligent blacks will see it as pandering, condescending and insulting. Tip : Spell the fucking words correctly. Niggas don't get a Reading course on garbled idiom invented by "slick people" who foolishly believe they can "spell" a dialect. |

The people who don't eat there. And their complaint will start with "The reason I don't eat there is ........". :1orglaugh |
You guys can continue to analyze.
I'll just sit here laughing my ass off. |
Remember the one for the white boy who was taking his girlfriend out and they folded the cheap little french bag up and put in their pockets for memories?
Holy Fucking shit!!! I don't even want to say anything cause I think my pitch spoke for itself. You cheap motherfucker. LOL I did this on purpose On purpose again. There you go! |
No tipping.:1orglaugh

People mistakenly believe that racial issues can be from a majority to a majority where racism is about hating people who are different than yourself. I don't think that black people are any better than white people when it comes down to being a racist. |

Okay, you know you don't have to be a part of the KKK to really be a racist. In fact what if it is just a virus that no one wants to admit they have and shouldn't have to be penalized for? Wouldn't that be awesome? Okay if I didn't drink so much I would have some real place to go here, but if you are born gay, can't you be born a racist and is it really your fault? |

Now, lets look at the what really matters. What matters is how people act out because of racism. Who is forming policies based on it, who is making laws based on it, who is committing violence based on it, who delivers injustice based on it, who choses their friends and employees based on it, who evaluates the worth of another person based on it? That is where the harm is and the harm is serious and long lasting. So it's not really so important about who is racist, but who is acting out. "Archie Bunker" was in fact a racist character; but where in his life did he ever do any harm to anyone? It isn't there! So to simplify it futher : Archie Bunker is coming over to my place for dinner but George Wallace is not invited. |

I do not see anything wrong with that. You are paranoid.

In the 1970s $11 would get enough food at McDonalds to last a family of eight a year. 25 cent hamburgers FTW! And if you got there real late, you could grab a shitload of fries, Cheeseburgers, Apple Pies, and QP's for the same price if the store was about to close.
And if they WERE already closed and you banged on the window, McDonald's (and Mr. Sub - and lots of other places) used to give the shit away for free instead of throwing it in a dumpster. Didn't matter what colour your skin was, either... More profitable to throw all that food in the trash now, though. |

Today, they are all following the lead of subway. That's why the salad's and what not. Not the ambush you but the goal of a corporation is to make profit, that's why you need checks and balances on the other end and if you are scared of being called a socialist, you have nothing to offer |

You need to keep in mind it was a very different time in the 1970s for blacks. Ask Baddog, he'll know.

Big difference between the 70's and today.
Nobody in that ad is obese, and the "baby daddy" is in the pic. |
