Today's Generation of Kids
I get a fair share of those kids selling their candy, cookies, and other bullshit the kids have them peddling door to door. Needless to say, the past three who've come here (most recent for some Bible church fund raiser) can't bothered to stop texting long enough to give me their sales pitch for whatever it is.
Anyway, if you can't be bothered to stop texting on your phone for 2 minutes, I can't be bothered to give/purchase/donate to whatever it is you are peddling. I frankly am a mix of worried and disgusted how today's generation is so self involved, that they really are in for a major bitch slap when they have to enter the workforce and support themselves. :2 cents: |
Troubling thing is that it seems to be global. Our room mate is Japanese. Couldn't find sand in a dust storm in the Sahara. Total fuckwit.
The Klein bus incident that made the news last 2 weeks is a sad example of whats to come. |
I have a very long, and insightful opinion to share on this subject. As soon as I'm done texting I'll post it.
|
A sad example as well, not even bothering to learn how to drive! ... Like that skill might not be needed someday.

Its almost been programmed in their heads this is how they communicate with each other. I thought my 2nd year in college was bad when they installed Internet in the dorms and everyone was glued to IM was bad :1orglaugh
My wife, our friend and I were out to eat last week and a few tables next to us was a group of younger kids between 14-16. ALL eight of them were glued to their phones the entire time. They only time they put their phone down was to eat or ask for another drink... it was pretty sad as things will only get "worse." My friends younger brother, he's going to be a senior in high school was just saying the only time he ever talks on his phone is to his parents :1orglaugh:1orglaugh |
I took a recent photo of my oldest daughter sitting on a rock in front of an incredibly picturesque waterfall - her back to the scenery....busy texting her friend. Totally oblivious to her surroundings.
When will they learn that life is the reality that happens around them? As for kids selling crap door-to-door.....my biggest beef is that it always seems to be the schools that force the kids to become shills for various fund-raisers and events. Chocolate bars, magazine subscriptions...anything they can hawk for a buck. And if they don't participate they become ostricized by the teachers and school admin. :disgust |

We will be there at Olive Garden, Red Lobster, or one of those places (typically where I notice more than other places) and there will be some young couple next to us glued to their phone. Sometimes you can see it's a first date watching them, other times established couples, but through most of the meal they are basically glued to their phones 90% of the time. Occasionally they will need to answer the waiter or other person for something, but you're like... WHAT IN THE FUCK?!? I guess I am glad to be a bit older, as I do not know I would have the patience for that sort of bullshit on a date. We see it all of the time when out. By that I mean, it's not the occasional one off thing that gives you a chuckle. You see it so much, you're just like what the hell. I guess you need to send an IM to your date and say, "We gonna fuck after this? to get some attention. :disgust |

My niece is always selling something. Although in case, I will always buy something from her. But then I have to ask my sister what the hell is this for?!!? They have her selling so much stuff, you would think she as to pay rent on her desk, and buy her own fucking books for class. :disgust |

I'm glad both my daughters are finished public school now (although the youngest starts college in the fall). I'm tired of telling the educationalists to go fuck themselves and stop being greedy little pricks at our expense. |
Who's buying these cells to the kids... Parents!!!!!

I think we had it once in football season, and once in baseball or something to that effect. Always the same candy bars with the odd shape. Although you could throw in girl scout cookies for the girls. You would at most see them a couple of times a year back in the day. Now it seems like it's every other week with some kid at the door peddling their wares. |

Then they act as if they're going through heroin withdrawls. They get fidgetty, short-tempered...impatient to leave - an all-round "joy" to be around without their cell. So at times we make the decision to exclude them from the occasional dinner (which makes them just as pissed off - like it's OUR fault). A few months ago I was training a new (young) employee where I work, and the guy kept texting every 5-10 mins. I finally lost my patience and told him to cram the thing up his ass or get the fuck outta my sight until he could give me his undivided attention. Probably wasn't the most cordial or professional way of dealing with him - but now he knows exactly where I stand, lol. |

I would bet that at least once per week there is an establishment I go into where the worker is on their cell phone. It could be a gas station, restraunant, grocery or mall store. You walk up to the counter to check out, or ask a question, and they are annoyed like you are taking up their precise time. I am honestly glad to see some of them fired, and getting suspended for that shit. I wish they could find a way to do something about those I pass who are driving with one knee, in the fast/passing lane, texting on the highway. That would be sweet justice if they hit them with $1500.00 fines, and confiscated their $750.00 phones. :thumbsup |

A few months back a chick sat about 6-7 seats away with a tablet and played with it during the movie. I finally had enough...got out of my seat to to "take a piss" and on the way by knocked it out of her hands with my knee. Made a great sound hitting the floor as I said, "Ooops...maybe shouldn't have had it out, eh." |

Everyone knows that kids have always sucked, but the ones coming up now are especially useless.

I haven't been able to stand cell phones ever since they were invented.

oh, you old bastards! i think in some cases ie people on dates, etc use checking the phone as away to "avoid" awkward silence. even though its still silent, it makes them seem like they are doing something. as for kids texting in theatres, who the hell cares as long as its on vibrate or whatever.
and for kids peddling crap door to door, they probably couldn't give a fuck. they're forced to do it, i'm surprised more kids don't just eat it all and say someone stole it from them. ideally schools would have all the funding they need but due to constant cuts, they have to do shit like that to get by, so complain to the government, not the educators. older generations will always have someting to complain about what younger generations do that they don't understand. our parents did it, our grandparents did and so on. we all act like cellphones are bain of existence for kids these days but the cycle will continue and they too will act like something else is totally annoying about their kids when the time comes, and I can only imagine what it might be. |

"I see no hope for the future of our people if they are dependent on frivolous youth of today, for certainly all youth are reckless beyond words... When I was young, we were taught to be discreet and respectful of elders, but the present youth are exceedingly wise [disrespectful] and impatient of restraint" (Hesiod, 8th century BC). . |
Where's Minte to grab the phone outta their hands an throw it out the window. I loved that story.

I think one of the big reasons - so many homes have two working parents, they feel bad, and spoil their kids rotten in the few minutes a day they see them...
It's being carried through into the education system, kids aren't allowed to "loose" anymore, everyone has to "win" a race, test or anything. It's crazy... you don't need to try if you always "win". Unfortunately, life isn't like that. |
