Cisco will disable your router over porn?

This is a real WTF situation...

Quote:

To make matters worse, the Connect Cloud service came with a supplemental privacy policy that explicitly allowed Cisco to peek at a user's "internet history," "traffic" and "other related information." If Cisco discovered you had used your router for "pornographic or offensive purposes" or to violate "intellectual property rights," it reserved the right to shut down your cloud account and effectively cut you off from your router. Now, much as the world needs moral stalwarts, in this instance Cisco appears to have backed down and removed the offending paragraph, but not before alienating a bunch of loyal Linksys customers like ExtremeTech's Joel Hruska at the source link below.

lol @ pairing porn with "offensive". "Offensive"? To who? Looks like these companies have some sort of clown sheet they all work of. Vague terms to hammer sites they don't agree with :(

While we're getting all Big-Brother up in this shit, wouldn't it be cool if we could send out a "don't allow transfer of these files unless the download originates from this exact web address" request that would block your content at the router level?

Sort of sounds like that's what they were planning on doing. I wonder how it would know? Video files are transcoded in a billion different ways before they end up in the final pirate's hands... Fingerprinting maybe?

Sounds like that's where they want the technology to go. Could bring back profits for everyone if that's the case. :)

I need more info on how it works before I completely make up my mind on that one. It sounds quite interesting...

I think they are talking about "offensive" meaning illegal. They would have to much of a battle on regular adult content

Illicit or unlawful would be the correct term. Either they are the new moral police or morons -- time will tell which it is.

I think that if they meant illegal they would have said illegal.
