A win against the bottomfeeders

A couple of weeks ago, I posted aboout blabbermouthkc.com and using extortion as a business model.

Yesterday, the owner took the site down permanently.

Today, I am in receipt of this:

Small win but a good one :thumbsup

I stopped following it, why is he so upset about people altering the color of a speech bubble? Seems kind of an odd thing to be on about at this point.

Actually, it was the forum over at KCSR that did the most. They kept the pressure on him.

All I did was put up a parody site. He did a DMCA against the site and all I did was counter.

All of a sudden he was taking his site down and hitting me up in private.

It is amazing what openly copying your lawyer on an email will do, ya know ;p

I don't think it's a win at all. Now some Ukrainian or Russian with offshore servers can do exactly the same thing even using this guys database and set up shop. Next time you put on your Internet PC do-gooder outfit remember, this last guy you closed down was reasonably controllable and fees affordable.

Now once a Russian or a Ukrainian gets a hold of this information, it for damn sure ain't going to be cheap. If it were me I'd actually lower the price just to reel in the OCD control freak fuckers and then really put the screws to them in a second round for $5k-10k each.

Finally, when you do stuff like this you need to have rhino skin because sooner or later it's going to come back around to you, were you live, and the people you associated with. In short, it's just best to mind your own business, unless it was something personal about that guy?

I have been meaning to tell you this for a while.

He brings up a point though. The U.S. needs to change their laws and procedures on publishing this information. As it is now there is little privacy for U.S. citizens and they are sitting ducks just waiting for stuff like this to happen. In some states you basically cannot even vote without publishing a phone number because when you register your phone number becomes public record and then these sites pop up publishing the info.

The mugshot website biz is pretty well established and the "reputation management industry" (run often by the same guys) is coming on strong. If the Russians, Ukrainians, whoever is not already doing it at some level I would be very surprised. What happened to blabbermouthkc has no real effect on that. The problem with this site was not the mugshots.

His business model was straight out extortion. He sent letters to people's homes telling them that if they didn't pay up then he would (if requested to) do neighborhood information campaigns, cabvassing the neighborhood with flyers about them or do a shout out campaign, putting up billboards in the local area about them.

But, like I said, if you paid the $200 he would make sure that that didn't happen to you, at least via him.

It was a protection scheme, pretty much pure and simple. He signed them with his own name and he was local.

I had very little to do with the whole thing. I did a parody site and he decided, for whatever reason, to deal with me. Like I said earlier, the entire KCSR board was involved. They got local media involved, they put the pressure on.

It is always good when you take out a bottomfeeder, even if the result is 2 more pop up.

You should never settle for status quo.

He Toast

I think the lady who was arrested for breaking into her own house probably got a lawyer on his ass and his own lawyer probably told him he's going to pay big time.
I can't remember when his bankruptcy was, but if was less than 7 years ago, he'll be cutting her grass & washing her car forever.
If my Jarndyce v Jarndyce case ever ends, I'm going after all those sites that sell information about people as several have false information about me.
