ins for my photography gear

Gear is generally stolen while in transit or car break-in, house break in. How is gear stolen while in use? If it's stolen while not in use how did the fact you shoot porn even come up?

.

Is your gear worth over 6k?

I'd be willing to bet 3-5 times that, at least.

I'm a student and my bag has about $10k total in it.

we use some co in philly, but i mainly carry it to cover any damage to locations (as required also when obtaining a permit). but it covers many different areas of "loss/damage", think i was paying around $1k/year last.

I was told if i ever filed a claim travelers would dump my policy and refund the premiums, Zürich would not accept me back as Zürich has a no porn policy as well. in my experience it's always better to be upfront in case there are issues of one sort or another, so I fessed up to my ins agent... and guess what? travelers dropped me like a hot rock.

why? don't know any pro content shooters that would fit in the 'under 6k' gear catagory myself.

How the hell did they even KNOW what you shoot, or not?
That's pretty bizzare, to me...

told ya i had to fess up so if there was an issue i could be paid...

the high fees probably aren't for gear, they're probably for professional liability reasons. That'd be my guess anyways. More potential liability with porn than just doing senior portraits.

That sucks...

I don't know why it would matter what type of images you are taking when the insurance just covers the value of the gear itself, not your overall business or the value of the content. Commercial photography is commercial photography no matter what type of gigs you are doing.

Anyway, I prefer spending my money on better physical security systems than on insurance who may very well screw you over and not pay out for any number of reasons if you try to make a claim. Even if it is a lame reason like they find out you are a pornographer.

I recently purchased a heavy safe and had it bolted to the floor in my equipment room with a completely wireless alarm system with multiple motion sensors also protecting my home and finally a videocamera system on top of that.

When I'm filming I have most of my gear with me, I never leave it in the car alone after a shoot, so a home burglary is the only place I could lose it and I feel protected at this point.

sorry to hear that, it's such a waste................... till you need it :winkwink:

TheDA 07-24-2012 03:57 AM

Can't you just add it on to your house insurance? :)
