This "your password has expired" bullshit

What the fuck is wrong with all of you dumbass siteowners that force a user to change their password after 365 days or whatever?

There is only 2 reasons to change a good password.
1: Because you suck and your shit got hacked
2: Because I want to

Fucking retards.

I tend to agree.

Password expiration after (I believe) 180 days is standard practice for most systems according to the Orange Book if I remember correctly.

It can be annoying yes, but it's not a "dumbass thing" :)

if you have to make a new one all the time that means you gotta write it down somewhere. Probably with all your other passwords. And if you lose that list...

lucas131 07-23-2012 03:04 PM

your password has expired

Or... Just use your orig password and add a number to it. first change add a '1', second change add a '2' etc...

Then just write down the number. Your pass that you have memorised remains the same, and if someone learns the number... Who cares?

stashnetwork 07-23-2012 03:54 PM

Yes its annoying if you want the same pass, I find it funny that some sites let you change it to the same.

One thing i hate about passwords reset is the famous :
You cant use your 5 previous passwords

I finally find a simple trick against that

You register and burn five passwords and then you can put your usual password back..

ok i take a lil time, but a least, you can use the password you want

Eat that robot :)

this is a security measure that has been implimented on your behalf for your benifit to prevent unwarranted access to your account. i think you owe someone an appolgy quite frankly :2 cents:

I hate that. What makes it even worse is them keeping a record of my passwords..

V_RocKs 07-24-2012 01:38 AM

Use good passwords. Store them encrypted. No need to switch them all of the time.

As you know all encryption programs have to have a open backdoor, otherwise they can't be used or sold. There is a chance such backdoors are known to way more people than just software coders and law enforcement.

they're probably storing the hashes, not the passwords.

FFS there are cam sites that make us change studio account, manager account and model account passwords every 30 fucking days. And they wonder why people cease delivering live content, lol.

alf6300 07-24-2012 03:48 AM

I hate even more when sites expire their session after 5 minutes, and I have to login again.
If it is my bank, it is ok.
If it is some non-security-heavy site, a random forum for piano lovers, AT LEAST give me the option to never expire.

OldJeff 07-24-2012 04:53 AM

If the password is for a bank of any kind (or 3rd party processor) password changes are required for PCI complience

Good point. Password policies should take into account the type of account.
