Should GFY Block Old Threads From Being Bumped?
Okay, I've got enough to do besides having to check the thread dates for every damn thread I visit in a day. Shit, I might check out 20-30 threads or more a day so what, I'm supposed to LOOK at DATES and decide if I should post in a thread from 2007? Am I supposed to ponder the MEANING of WHY someone would bump a thread from 2011? Is there supposed to be some SIGNIFICANCE in the fact that a thread from 2005 was bumped TODAY or is it just some WANKER fucking with us? And I should decipher all this because...?
Please, we're all very busy people... So I say old threads should not be allowed to be bumped to the first page. Maybe the SECOND page but the front should be reserved for shit that's happening now and relevant today. Agree or disagree? (And is there an old thread someone could bump going over this very issue?) |
Yes they should.
Some idiot troll gets butthurt, and then goes about bumping 20 threads. It clutters up the forum with bullshit. :2 cents: |
depends on the use.. bumping an old one to continue or update on a specific topic i can understand, but bumping old spam threads is a pain in the ass and this one guy doing it should be told to knock it off.

It's usually someone previously banned, or a fake nick anyway doing it 9 of 10 times. |
Agree 85% of cases. There are 15% of old threads, though, that are worth/informative/interesting/fun to be bumped.
Second page would be fine but it could make things unnecessary complicated (never seen a forum with such a rule, I am not sure how it would look like). I see the point, but one of the good things of GFY is that it has something like 3 simple rules, the rest is community driven and community-enforced. |
No, but the trolls that bump them for fun should be banned.
|
I agree that it depends on the thread. There are some educational threads that are worth bumping. The 'spam me' threads from two years ago are not.
|
And all Paul Markham's threads should be blocked from being bumped.
|
Made a note in my diary to bump this 5 years from now
|
they could still be bumped but anything with a start date of over 1 year should be flagged via an icon or something, that would be better.
|
mutiple old thread bumping is a pain in the ass, when some idiot bumps 10 posts. On the other hand there are some creative bumps, which are fun. Let's not forget the name of this place :winkwink:
|
Most of you don't want the stupid shit you say and stupid predictions you've made to come back to haunt you. I say fuck that. Nothing wrong with bumping old threads.
|
It doesn't make much sense to bump old threads IMHO.
|
A compromise could be to show the date the thread was started alongside the last post date so that we could see that it is an old thread before clicking into it.

As for citing some thread and bullshit predictions from years gone by, do you not know how to post a link? |
I don't make it a point of bumping old threads... unless I'm trying to make a point. Sort of like Melissa Midwest's "We are sorry and we want you back" thread.

Some of them are funny. Some of them are informative. Some of them are in bad taste for just all around wrong, those typically get closed.
I don't see what the big deal is. Could they be annoying for some people? Sure. For others, they are damn entertaining. If I'm crazy busy on a given day, I just don't visit GFY at all. |

This thread will be bumped several times a year until we're all dead :upsidedow |
I always look at the date in the original post and have never had a problem with an old thread because of that simple routine.
|
I think they should have a time limit and then archived
|
i am just a pretty girl
|
Depends on thread.
Some of them should be bumped up because they are productive/highly entertaining. Others...not so much. Bumping several old threads in 1 day=no good. |

Yup, should've mentioned Paul Markham..... And yes, some old thread bumps can be interesting etc, like the Chris Mallick bumps when that whole shit was going down. |
Bumping old threads isn't bad per se. It can serve a purpose. For example to expose a scammer or nonpaying program. To point out someone's predictions were right (or wrong). etc.
What annoys me is when some idiot starts bumping multiple old threads just for the fun of it and to disrupt the normal GFY activity. Such behavior can easily be identified and so we don't need a special rule against that. The mods seem to take care of those types of people fast enough (most of the time). |
Votes rigged. I demand a recount!
Stupid electronic polling... |

Is self-bumping allowed?
I think so..... Good. Bump |

depends on the thread
|
No.
There are some classic threads that make me laugh every time I see them surface again. |

Nah, some are good to remember:)
But they should ban old ads threads... including selling content of course:) |
I predict this thread will be bumped in the future.
