Most unbiased news source

Which do you consider to likely be the most unbiased news source? Feel free to mention any that I didn't include.

wehateporn 07-30-2012 03:54 PM

Two of the worst on that list are the BBC and The Economist

CyberHustler 07-30-2012 03:58 PM

The Onion, National Enquirer, Media Takeout, GFY

mce 07-30-2012 03:59 PM

English Al Jazeera is bundled in with my cable package and aside from the Mid East coverage, their coverage is quite liberal.

As for The Economist being biased, I would have to agree. There are always two sides to a story. Sadly, the Economist misses this and reflects a very biased free market perspective. I find a lot of agreement with this perspective but just because I agree with it doesn't mean it is UNBIASED. Besides, the free market prescription is NOT a panacea. It only works in a certain range of situations.

They're good on a lot of things, but were just as bad as The West with Libya and now Syria too :2 cents:

I was impressed to see a documentary on Al Jazeera about the vaccine damage (mainly death) caused in India by the HPV vaccine, whereas the Western Media covers that stuff up.

Brujah 07-30-2012 04:07 PM

If you vote Other, please provide a better example of a more unbiased news source than the ones listed as examples.

If you think the poll sucks, then just move along and don't participate.

Whats your thoughts on NY Times?

wehateporn 07-30-2012 04:08 PM

The Economist is Rothschild and Family

Personally there's no one source I trust, I have to read many different sources, then see if the story actually makes logical sense and fits in with what we do know; I normally end up researching all over the place for more info.

Fox News has a different agenda behind it than most of the US Media, still filled with lies, but one also gets snippets of great info that wouldn't have been allowed on the other stations

Russia Today is very good in a lot of ways, especially useful for people in The West to find out about what their own governments hide from them, but they won't tell you anything bad about Russia :2 cents:

They're all biased. Bias = niche market = profit. Prejudice pays.

Google seems to be applying the same principles to search. Panda and Penguin have a left wing bias, since social media is inherently leftist. Shaping the web just like the news media shapes public opinion.

Sure, but the question is which news source do you feel is usually the least biased. You don't have to believe that any news source is perfect, but obviously when you compare two, there will almost always be an answer which one is least biased. I hope that makes more sense.

This isn't a question of which news source you can trust, or which news source is perfect, or even how you should approach your news filtering or aggregating. It's about which news source you feel is the least biased, and that is a question that can be answered.

I don't believe it's a question that can be answered.

There isn't a news source anywhere that has objective neutrality built into its strategy. They all play to their audience's expectations. It's no different from niche marketing in porn.

ShoeBox 07-30-2012 07:13 PM

:1orglaugh whoever said foxnews is fucking stupid

Brujah 07-30-2012 07:13 PM

It's easy, watch:
1. Wall Street Journal
2. The Economist

Here we start with 2 sources. One of them is less biased than the other. Let's say WSJ.

Next we have:
1. Wall Street Journal
2. Politico

You might feel that one of these now is less biased than the other.

Anyway, it isn't like you're going to fail an important test for answering a poll on GFY. I don't understand why it has to be so difficult, and it's completely opinion based so there is no right answer but YES it's a question that CAN be answered.

As to motivation, I was just hoping that by asking the question I could learn from it by seeing sources I may not use myself, and also learn from what the general consensus was based on the answers given.

Gosh!

oppoten 07-31-2012 12:39 AM

Ok I voted for RT. Simply because its bias is closest to mine.

Al Jazeera reporter resigns over "biased" Syria coverage
http://english.al-akhbar.com/node/4941

"Ali Hashem, resigned on Tuesday after leaked emails revealed his frustrations over the news channel's coverage of Syria, according to a source within the television network."

" pro-Assad hackers leaked emails that revealed the dismay among Al Jazeera's staff over its ?biased and unprofessional? coverage of the Syrian uprising."

They seem to be very independent.

there is a good film of them during the start of the iraq war.

they are there with bbc and cnn and a few others.

if you listen to the staff on Al Jazeera they realy do seem to push wowards being a pure news site and not being bias.

on it there is a solder from the usa army that everyone loves (you cannot help to like him, he is like mr super nice).

at one pont they report that the usa took a village. then a local opens a mao and askes were is the bridge that the usa claimn they took. they then giggle as the usa have claimed they took a brigde that does not exsist.

they do not seem to cover selebs and rubbish like that.

a few seem to have gone from the bbc to that station as i think they are like a sort of high quality news.

even so, i suspect out of all the news they are least bias.

sure they are not perfect, but who is (well i am i guess).

but surly this itself shows the pashion its reporters have. i bet no one from bbc or any other station who resign.

wehateporn 07-31-2012 05:34 AM

It seems a lot of their reporting is good, the journalists there are good, but when it comes to Syria/Libya it's clear they're working with The West

I wonder if BBC journalists would resign if the BBC was doing something similar to Ireland or France, maybe they would. Many in the BBC will know what's going on with the fake reporting on Syria, but maybe it's too far away for them to get upset about.

most of the bbc reporters are on huge wages.

they keep there gob shut.

they are far too happy to take the cash.

they would never get paid that with any other station.

DVTimes 07-31-2012 06:26 AM

Somtimes some bias is good.

after all somtimes we view the world through our eyes and its often good to see it from a different perspective.

an example is in the uk i was told the ira were bad. but when you see things from the irish view and with bloody sunday and the way the uk army just killed inicent people, i did think the ira had a point and if i was irish i think i would have joined them.

the problem is, even the news in your country may be baned from giving out a non biased view. i belive in the usa they are not alowed to show dead troops as durung the vietnam war (i belive it was) that showing the dead and ingered turned suport away. so they now only want posotive images.

in the uk the news only seems to cover posative news stories on the war. i do not think they have ever shown the dead or injered solders. the only time they do is when a solder with a leg missing is doing a charity walk.

they sertainly never say how many ingered solders there have been that day, only report the ones who have died. i suspect a huge amount have been injered badly.

The best news source that I have found has been the Associated Press website. When I read there, I do not feel that big business could be swaying a story's integrity one way or the other. Just a giant, worldwide collective of journalists working for one cause: news.

one of the problems (especialy for nrws papers) is that they do not make as much cash (people do not buy papers the way they did) so they have less cash to spend. thus getting stories is not as easy.

one film showed that if you were sneaky you could phone a newspaper with a made up story and if you were convincing they would print it as they did not have the budget to see if it was true or not.

BINGO! THAT is an honest and true answer.

People think that whatever news source matches their own personal world view is "unbaised", or "the least biased". Any news source which does NOT match their personal world view is viewed as garbage.

Such is human nature.
