Would Ye Shiwen be accused of doping if she was a white girl from North America / Europe?

Just curious what people think about her, she is 16 and smashing world records in swimming. Personally I would like to hope she is legit, but western media have definitely brought doubt to this girl.

Obviously it's possible, but I suppose I prefer to think people are genuine. One thing I did notice is that her reactions when she wins or beats records are not as happy as you would expect someone to be, but maybe that is how a chinese girl was raised. Weird situation.

I think the issue is more the fact that she swam faster in her final 50m than the winning man did in his first 50m. She also took something like 7 seconds off her personal best in this race. I think that's where the US coach was coming with his 'impossible' comment.

Sure, their may be a bit of a hub bub since she's Chinese, but it may be more the fact that the Chinese have been done for widespread doping previously. I think if a Western female swimmer did that, there would still be quite a bit of chatter about it.

I don't think it really matters.

As Ruby already said, facts kind of speak for themselves as to why the question is being asked.

I would bet that the Chinese have a huge lab of scientists who have a sole purpose of cheating the drugs tests.

doping in the olympics is like anything else....if you dont get caught did you do anything wrong?

It's not doping if they can't detect it.

It is physically impossible to improve that much in such a short period of time.

Every single time we've seen this sort of domination, there has been doping involved...and the Chinese have been busted more than once. So, it's the likely story.

Unless of course, the Chinese managed to come up with a way to beat the system and not get caught.

PS. It was an white Irish girl who was the big doping story in one of the more recent summer games. So to answer your question, YES.

maybe she waited for OI to show all, it will prevent rivals to push it over limits...

MontrealDave 07-31-2012 06:07 AM

People have been accusing cyclists of doping and most of them are white men...

sperbonzo 07-31-2012 06:09 AM

If she was a white bicyclist from the USA who survived cancer she would be under investigation for doping over and over and over again......

....Race has nothing to do with it. Get over it.

Well that was the other side of the argument from non-westerners, that she is being treated differently for being Chinese.

I was asking the question to see what some of your opinions were, not sure why some of you have a stick jammed up your ass for me asking such a simple question.

Zoxxa 07-31-2012 08:29 AM

Guess we'll all see when results come back. I was listening to some broadcasters discuss it could take up to 8 years for them to find anything. Since they are constantly catching up with new doping techniques.
