Removing links

I had an email from a mainstream website owner asking me to remove his link from my site which he purchased just under a year ago because he said it has made his site go way down in the google ranks. He said he was removing all links to his site now. Is this something new thats happening ?

No. Some webmasters get links to their site and nothing else. Then , when they get punished for infrequent updates, stale content, high bouce rate.. all they can think of is: "It has to be the backlinks, that's all I did."

Go ahead and let those people fail. More money for the rest of us.

We get so many emails from people wanting us to contact our clients and make them remove links, it is not even funny.

What is funny is that crappy links have always been just that, crappy links. Why did you get them in the first place?

Is Penguin a Penalty?

No, neither Penguin nor Panda are manual penalties, Cutts said. He explained that Penguin was designed to tackle ?the stuff in the middle;? between fantastic, high quality content and spam. Panda was all about spam, but the need for Penguin arose from this middle ground.

?It does demote web results, but it?s an algorithmic change, not a penalty. It?s yet another signal among over 200 signals we look at,? he said.

Yep that worked very well indeed It certainly knocked all the spam crappy sites up to the top of google search, well done google " clap fucking clap"

nickutis 08-01-2012 01:20 PM

we can tell for sure if removing links help or not only after new penguin data / algorithm refresh.

Until then it's just pure guessing

Tell him to get more quality links, mentions on twitter and other social platforms, traffic etc.

Google has been emailing webmasters warning them about apparent non natural links.

Not sure about e-mailing, but I've seen a lot of people cry their eyes out on forums, about receiving a notice of "unnatural links detected" in their GWT account.

Barry-xlovecam 08-02-2012 09:46 AM

In the big picture google created their own monster -- the quantity of links denoted the value of the site. This was fine while the backlinks were voluntary links of relevance and editorial approval.

Then people bought links to game the SERPS and the search engines' algorithms that determined the SERPs. You do reap what you sow it seems.

Yeah, that's what I meant, a notice within the GWT system. Not specifically an email (which would be spam?)

halfpint 08-02-2012 11:07 AM

So this would be a very good way to take sites out of top google rankings which you dont like :winkwink:
