Tonite's photoshoot - Waterfall at Sunset [pics]

Earlier this evening my daughter and I ventured down to the bottom of the gorge at Decew Falls for a sunset photoshoot at river level.

Waterfalls and long exposures...gotta love it. :thumbsup

The dark ones have no size reference without the people in the lagoon.

It's a little-known area - off the beaten path of tourists in Niagara. Still pristine, and the lagoon is only 3-4ft deep - ideal for cooling off. The water comes from a man-made reservoir (Lake Gibson) used for the city's drinking water...so it's quite clean.

Mutt 08-02-2012 12:55 PM

the red brick house - is that a private residence? if so, that's quite a backyard!

Mutt 08-02-2012 12:57 PM

i grew up in that area - but my memory sucks for the names of all the places my buddies and me would explore. it's a great area to grow up in, even tho a lot of people refer to it as an armpit.

The lagoon's about 3-4' deep...so yeah, you can swim.

Wear a helmet if you plan on diving.

The red building is a re-creation of a late-1800s sawmill that stood originally on the property. It's open to the public...owned/operated by the City of St. Catharines and staffed by some really great volunteers who take part in the restoration.

Above and below the waterfall - the entire property is extremely photogenic from many angles (especially in the fall when the leaves change color).
