Hostgator (24/7 live support), cheap, fast and reliable on shared, about the best that shared can get. The $15 per month shared package is the one to go for (unless you've got huge traffic)

If you are running a big operation go with a company like mojohost or the like. If you are just running blogs and low end site go with hostgator.

The only trouble you'll get with hostgator is if you get a problem late at night and get on their live support chat chances are you'll get someone less experienced. This can get very frustrating.
