Silk Road Website Development Costs

How much do you think it cost to develop the Silk Roads platform and website? I haven't seen the site but i imagine it includes marketplace software, bitcoin processing solution integration, hosting, etc.

I'm not a programmer but i bet some of you could provide a rough estimate..?

What's your guess?:thumbsup

I never visited the site , but what I hear is it's a good one ;) , I wouldn't risk the prison time to get 10k extacy pills shipped to my house tho

I'd venture a guess it didn't cost them, whoever created that site, anything except their time, excluding other non development costs.

to get an idea on cost of a similar in functionality marketplace - think of it as a premium tube site with user submitted content and a forum. other than streaming it's pretty similar I'd say =) people submit their listings, site processes/escrows payments, users rate & submit reviews

then there are costs for hosting, administration/customer support, optimization, maintenance, security, and marketing/pr if not talking about SR which enjoyed and continues to enjoy free PR from the media.

i'm strictly judging from web dev. perspective, haven't been to the site.

We'd be able to build something along the lines of that including the BitCoin payment functionality for around $9k on the LOW end...

hopefully you know about hot wallets and cold storage, the dangers of keeping all bitcoins on a server especially if server runs on VPS/Cloud/Dedi if not at locked caged colo, tell client to replace your installed bitcoin wallet with their fresh newly created one, prevent site from possible SQLI attacks, tell client to use really strong and unique passwords everywhere and especially for server/site access and never share passwords among each other in client company, implement 2factor auth for users access, store hashed with bcrypt + salt user passwords in db, consult on offsite (daily) backups...

security is the most important nuance for online services dealing with other people's bitcoins.
