LOL...La familia

Anyone see the Korean fencing girl? 1 hour break down, refused to leave the stage. #2
She could have submitted formal protest and most likely won for the bronze...instead, 1 hour tantrum.

The referee who allowed the Azerbaijan boxer to continue fighting after he got knocked down 6 times by the Japanese fighter and then awarded the decision to the AZR fighter, it was unreal.

The Azerbaijan fighter was ahead on points at the end of the second round. But in the third and final round he went to the canvas six times. If he went down as the result of punches he should have been given two eight-counts and after the third knockdown the fight should have been stopped. If he flopped onto the canvas to avoid fighting, he should have been cautioned and then disqualified.

But the referee, from Turkmenistan, ignored the knockdowns/fall-downs and repeatedly stopped the clock to give the Azerbaijani time to get up and readjust his head gear.

The five ringside judges apparently were equally blind to what transpired in the ring, and they awarded the Azerbaijani the decision.

I've never bought into any of the "boxing is fixed" bs I hear all the time, however after reading the excerpt below, I now believe the ref and judges in this match most likely received payoffs to make sure the AZR fighter advanced. The decision probably would have stood, but it was so ridiculously bad they were forced to overturn it.

"Adding intrigue to the outrage in the ring was the fact that almost a year ago, in September 2011, British Broadcasting Corp. News did an investigative story in which it was revealed that an Azerbaijan national had offered AIBA $9 million to guarantee that two Azerbaijan boxers would win gold medals at the London games. AIBA confirmed that a donation was made to one of the competitions under its umbrella, World Series Boxing, but that the gift would not influence judging at the London games.

The outrageous decision in the match between the Azerbaijani and Japanese fighters was almost immediately reversed by AIBA and the ring referee was fired and sent home. Apparently no action was taken against the ringside judges. "

Yeah, I saw this. Un-fucking believable...well, actually its all pretty believable. There are discussions in Japanese forums that media leaks in AZR claim the ref was paid between $200-300k to throw the match. I'm sure 200k goes a long way in turkbuttfuckistan.

Sounds like drama. Maybe I should watch it. I checked out 2 or 3 games of ping pong but that was it.

Ah, that would surely make sense. The thing was the AZE fighter was cruising to a victory and was way ahead after the first 2 rounds, I'm sure the ref thought this will be easy. Then all of a sudden in the 3rd round, the AZE fighter just ran out of gas and couldn't even stand up. If the ref had at least given him 1 or 2 eight counts and called the other falls as "slips", he might have gotten away with it.

there was a protest and as part of the rule she must remain on the piste during the appeal. she wasnt throwing a tantrum.

Nope, wrong. She held up matches for an hour. No protest was filed as far as I can see.

My story is better and more likely. I do not believe mainstream media at all. Like the lohan porn shoot, they get it wrong all the time.

Do you believe in Santa ?

Captain Kawaii 08-12-2012 04:13 PM

The uproar in comments on Yahoo US was so bad Yahoo removed the article.

However, not in Canada...
http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/blogs/oly...geNum ber%3D1

Complete fabrication between headline and story content.

In Asia, the korean story has a different spin. US media already spinning it so people feel bad for koreans.

This is correct.
Which is also why I hate when uneducated and unknowing people, in this case Captain Kawaii, has opinions about stuff he/she/it clearly doesn't know anything about.

Top Award has to go to Usain Bolt. As Bob Costas said last night...It's impossible to think more of Mr. Bolt than he thinks of himself.

Truly a legendary athlete, just so lacking class for declaring it over and over and over....welcome to the world of 2012.

I agree, he most likely will end up a legend, but as the IOC president said, lets evaluate legend status after his career is finished and we can reflect back on it. His incessant comments regarding him being a legend turn you off from being a fan despite his performance on the track. Btw, what did Manzano do to warrant douchebag status, I know he won the silver but didn't hear about anything else he did.

Buff 08-13-2012 05:04 AM

Wait, his name is Manzano and he's Mexican and not Italian???
