Total recall 1990 or 2012
Total recall 1990 or 2012 ?
|
Watching the original recently, it's pretty bad. Great story, but considering how HUGE Arnold was at the time, the production quality is severly lacking.
|
honnestly i like the first movie

With the original TR, be aware there are two versions... the censored one is totally butchered, sometimes excluding several seconds of dialog at a time, rather than just replacing fuck with some less offensive word. If you've seen both you really notice the difference. |
I like the first one too. The story is awesome. They just really banked on Arnold's clout and cut corners on prodution. But that's how they made movies in the 90s.
Commando is pretty awful. |
The original is better. It had a better story, a few good surprises, amazing violence (the shootout on the escalator - wow), and it was the first time, I think, you saw hot chicks fighting. Plus it full of director Paul Verhoven touches, a spine-tingling "you're actually still dreaming" scene, and a very smart, very well-placed "secret" when the technician holds up a file and, in the background utters "hmmm... blue sky on mars". A bit that is missed by many people.
The remake looks great, and has even hotter chicks fighting, but not much else. The big surprise is non existent. There's no Mars. The story is weaker, etc... |
this question strikes me as a joke really.
there's no comparison... the cool things from the 2012 come from the 1990 one, and the 2012 lacks the great things like ... I dont know, mars? |

For example, there is more and more robots in scifi movies and you can bet that you'll have robots as policemen in 40 years (but we have here a plot that is very similar to the latest star war movies and you could just... fire people ?). The device to modify your aspect seems to use a hologram: there is basically possible. (http://www.cyberpunkreview.com/images/totalrecall03.jpg << this is not possible) The phone in the hand: this is possible. A lack of space that creates cities on several levels in the sky: possible. Excepted for the travel through the center of the earth (in fact the pressure is so big that the core of earth is solid), i find this movie more realistic with a possible evolution of our societies in a near future, while a colonization of mars seems impossible irl for the near future. The ending of the movie (when they beat the bad guys) is a magic bullet for me and it is just not possible, while the ending of the first movie is possible. |
I was disappointed it wasn't about Mars. "Get your Ass To Mars"

oh yes, something that i don't understand with the new movie.
The terrorists are on Mars, but you send your troops to somewhere on earth ??? |
Always liked the original, was cool back then
|
The 2012 version is shit and unnecessary. I'll say more when I've seen it though. :) The original is excellent, like Robocop.
PS. Commando is superb. Anyone who says otherwise is unfortunately just not getting it. |
I didn't watch them..
|
It should have been left alone, sure the original looks bad by todays standards visually, but it was also the most expensive movie ever made up to that point back in the day - it was a great movie and should have been left alone. The latest version imo was dull, some of the ideas for future gadgets was cool but that was it.

I actually worked on the original. I was a recording engineer and I worked on the sound track for a few scenes, including the cheesy music during the bar scene with the triple breasted whore.
. |
New one is total crap.
|
New version is better.

I haven't watched the new one, but I'm pretty sure the old version is better. They always are. That's why it's the original and this is a shitty attempt at milking an already created story. Effects might be better, but it's nothing but a carbon copy.
|
I like the original.
|
|
i will let you now after the 6/9
|
Haven't seen the new one, but i don't need to. The original for me is a classic! And always will be.
I still watch it on some of the cable channels when it comes on every so often... |
I remember this on the Sega, and many of the ideas were taken from Total Recall.

Though I haven't seen the remake, I like the version of Arnold more.

As much as I enjoyed the Remake, particularly the Cinematography and the Higher production Value than from the Original One, already knowing the Story as the movie went on ruined it for me. Could have been a Classic Science Fiction movie had it been a completely different story altogether.... |
arnold all the way
|
havent seen the second one. looks like blade runner in the preview
|
Colin Farrell looks old in the new movie (he is 36)
|
I went into it with very low expectations. I thought it was a great movie. Not sure if it was because I had low expectations that I liked it.. but it was a good movie for sure. The visual effects are amazing.

isnt 22 years a little soon for a remake
