Dear Americans
I have a question.
We have a phrase in England: "I couldn't care less". It means that even if I tried, I could not care less about something. It seems you use a similar phrase: "I could care less". Can you explain what it means? That you COULD care less, but you're just not going to? It makes little sense to me. Seems like you took our phrase and cocked it up. But I am sure that can't be the case. So please enlighten me. KTHXBYE. |
Truth is we are all just so fucking stupid that we don't know the right way to say it.
|
bahhhhhh moi j'm'en crisse
|
only people with little grasp of the english language (which is many) screw it up and say could instead of couldn't.
|
|
It's supposed to be "couldn't care less" here, too. But people are so fucking lazy they can't be bothered to say it correctly. It annoys the piss out of me when people say it wrong, for the exact reason you've stated...what they are saying is that they actually do care.
|
The same reason people in the south say 'warsh', retardation.
|
My wife and I have a saying called "not my problem dot com". I swear I should register that if it isn't already taken.
|
Will I see you in London next month?

Using a contraction might be thought of as caring, so we just shorten it even more though it means the same. :winkwink:

Tell someone who cares is synonymous ... |
I could care less = I don't really give a fuck
such as when Paul Markham thinks he's funny making stupid threads i say , i could care less about your stupid threads paul which is I dont really give a fuck about your thread paul |
I couldn't care less about this topic.
. |
Actually we could care less, we just happen to make you feel more important. So we kind of try to care a little bit.

saying "could of" when meaning "could have" annoys me much more. and i am not even a native english speaker
|
Yes, the US has screwed that saying up pretty badly, and it annoys me as well when people use it wrongly, but having lived in the UK for 4 years at one point in my life, I can safely say that many people in the UK manage to mangle English pretty badly also..... not just in terms of phrases, but in swallowing whole syllables in words. Some Brits can't even understand each other! (e.g. Geordies and Cockneys)

I care very little about this phrase and how people say it (especially in england)... but don't fret, I could care less... just choose not to 'cause I'm nice like that.

The idiots that everyone refers to as being 'dumb Americans' are also made fun of by other Americans, they just give everyone a bad name..
I fucking hate that I can't call someone a fucking retard without everyone being so damn defensive when it's that retard's fault for being so ignorant and/or stupid.. Same with fat people, you did it to yourself. |
