Police opened fire with automatic weapons on a group of men who burst out from behind a vehicle.

Reuters television footage showed at least seven bodies lying on the ground.

South Africa?s SAPA news agency said one of its reporters had counted 18 bodies.

I have a good friend who's father used to work in the mines in upstate PA.

It's hard work and it ended up killing the man from subsequent lung disease.

Those dead bodies you see in these pictures are those of others who did the same.

On this side of the ocean, the teabaggers would have us believe that folks such as these are greedy, overpaid union types.

I'm more inclined to view them as men of modest means who are willing to risk anything and everything to avoid poverty.

The financial sector here and abroad would do well to pay heed.
