Watched this documentary last night and holy shit are these guys ruthless. They just nonchalantly talk on camera about torturing people, chopping their heads off, dumping bodies - shit is insane. What makes it all the more menacing is that Russian dudes are all creepy looking; they look like fucking vampires. What's most interesting, though, is how it seems that in Russia the lines between mobsters, politicians, bankers, and businessmen became blurred when they made the transition from a communist to capitalist society. And I think the most salient point, something all the ivory tower fantasyland libertarians should keep in mind, is that if the government does not maintain a monopoly on violence, you get organizations like this that step in to fill the vacuum. I have some more thoughts on it, but no time to type it out right now, not that anybody gives a shit, anyway. If you got an hour and a half, watch it; it's pretty good.

Hey, Marina. That's a pretty name - Marina. I think if I ever have a daughter I'll name her that. Or Valentina or Karina or something. I like Russian girl names, they're very elegant. As long as it's one that hasn't been soiled by a bunch of porn chicks yet, you know? Like if you name your daughter Bailey or Sasha you're pretty much setting her up to be "Anal queen of 2033".

Saw that, mixed feelings, there's both - truth and fabulation, although the truth prevails and the paradox is that some things said that were true simply won't be believed in the western world.

The best material about this eastern problematic I saw was a local documentary series from the end of the 90's that has never been reprised nor is it available to buy, even local police officials were exchanging VHS copies of that as a gold.

Very methodical, provided by law enforcement professionals / insiders of that time who weren't mentioned in the subtitles.
