picked up a very nasty virus
I'm running windows defender... I clicked a link and WD let me know I had a bug, cleaned it off EXCEPT didn't really clean the damn thing off. a few min later started getting I/O read write errors.. then some 'third party' software popped up suggesting I register and get my machine repaired asap before it was too late... seriously.... right?
a variation of this app: http://www.bleepstatic.com/swr-guide...ows-repair.jpg here's what the virus does: changes the attribute to all your files to 'hide' and moves the start menu links to a temp folder. be pretty scary if you aren't backed up or a novice user for sure... I knew it was bullshit because I could see all the files on the network... I downloaded pc tools virus app and got the bug off and here's how to clean up the mess: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/viru...ide&sa=Search+ |
So did Mr. Marcus. Crazy coincidence.

Going back to a prior restore point would not work? Did you try that? Doesn't always work with some of these viruses, but worth a shot.

Hook up your PC with the Malwarebytes + ESET Security combo.
