Java programming class starts in the morning :)

I hear it's not to fun :(

Of all the languages I've ever played with...Java I disliked the most. But I do think learning it will will help your transition into a more appealing language at a later stage.

BSleazy 08-26-2012 04:44 PM

Ya I think this is gonna be tough for me. I took an intro Python class and that's about all I know.

Theo 08-26-2012 04:46 PM

I never liked java either

alcstrategy 08-26-2012 04:59 PM

Java is fun, you might just like it

HomerSimpson 08-26-2012 06:28 PM

I hate Java... was one of my exams... it was both boring and stupid...

shake 08-26-2012 08:06 PM

I need to learn some java too unfortunately... Took me half a day just to get Eclipse setup right for java dev.

Eclipse is the worst thing ever but I guess a necessary evil in some cases. I feel for you

Ron2k1 08-27-2012 12:32 AM

Java is a good way to start learing programming

BSleazy 09-19-2012 05:27 PM

I'm having more trouble figuring out how to use eclipse than the Java lol

mikesouth 09-19-2012 05:30 PM

Its worth knowing and will carry you nicely into C++ should you choose to go that route.

CYF 09-19-2012 05:32 PM

I hated java. My university switched to java, wish they'd have stuck with C.

Dunno why this old thread got bumped, but check out Stanford U's Programming Methodologies course .. it's probably a good companion course to anything you're taking.

Java is taught to introduce object orientated programming. It can get quite verbose but it's an acquired taste, C++ is not fun and assembly is definitely NOT fun.

Assembler rocks :thumbsup

The only talk on GFY is about PHP. Lots of high paying jobs for programmers out there. Fuck this shit :)

BSleazy 09-19-2012 10:08 PM

Looking on job sites I see a lot of openings paying 100k+ for java programmers. Same for other languages. After taking a python course, u learn a couple and the rest come easy.

Just started learning it myself for an android app. Yup, eclipse has a curve. Jumping into the app world I've found I have learn eclipse IDE, Java and the android SDK. Triple whammy. It's starting to click though. Stressing starting since I'm only a couple of days into it. Java def seems structured and highly class oriented. I'm up for it and getting into it though.

Keep us updated on your progress with Java. I'd like to hear your thoughts as you go through the class.

Actually java is more profitable then any other language since it is used for creating games for cellphones. But it's also a bit complicated.

If money is your goal, PHP is not the language you should choose. Lots of us know it, and catching up to our experience level (and profitability because of it) will be a bitch.
