Are banners a totally outdated marketing tool or still necessary?

Does anybody still look for banners when you join an aff program or do you just hit up a rep if you need some created?

Wizzo 08-29-2012 10:03 AM

I would always at least have a few of the common sizes.

Jey p 08-29-2012 10:07 AM

still necessary :)

BIGTYMER 08-29-2012 10:10 AM

My tracking shows I still generate sales from them. Other methods do better but they still work.

DamianJ 08-29-2012 10:31 AM

See sig...

I can come up with ideas for banners that actually work.

Imagine that!

spazlabz 08-29-2012 11:47 AM

the Shemp 08-29-2012 11:59 AM

I design my own because the banners most programs supply look like shit.

edgeprod 08-29-2012 04:00 PM

LOL, what? I get tons of clicks on my banners.

spunky99 08-29-2012 04:09 PM

nothing worse then having to ask for banners to be made, would just move on and find someone else to promote instead

anexsia 08-29-2012 04:30 PM

The flashing bright colored .gif ones convert the best

grzepa 08-29-2012 04:30 PM

banner are a nice addition to text links

Nicky 08-29-2012 06:02 PM

The standard ones should be there but being able to hit someone up to get custom ones is nice. Like you can do with me and ER ;)

Banners are effective

Barry-xlovecam 08-29-2012 06:29 PM

Display advertising is on the decline.

For affiliate programs they may be in demand but they are being replaced by more cutting edge products. Video overlays are just one of them.

Banners might be outdated, but they are not obsolete yet.

Jakez 08-29-2012 07:56 PM

Need to be more specific.. are sponsor provided banners utterly useless? Yes. Are banners in general useless? Not at all.

gimme-website 08-29-2012 10:43 PM

Banners still account for a significant proportion of my working hours...

No, I mean those roll over expanding banners that become videos. Mainstream has been getting very strong results with that kind of ad. It is cutting edge now but will lose its strong effects with more common use. In advertising, familiarity can either brand a product or receive less attention, thus effectiveness. In extreme cases it will breed contempt.

On the innerwebs, banners will be added to ad-blockers if served from an ad network ...

u need to copy google with the fake search option if you are getting ppc Works well on mainsteam anyway

mineistaken 08-30-2012 04:11 AM

yes, but most banners from sponsors looks like they are very outdated.
Sponsors - update your banners, nobody want to use them if they look like they are from 1998
