For the Cambodian government to give a squirt of piss about this guy means they were put under serious pressure from foreign sources. Normally you can get away with just about anything there, greasing your way out of most problems.
He is probably a pedophile too. That place seems to be a magnet for them. |

On a related note Cambodia has hi-tech digital fingerprinting stations at their immigration. Compliments of the USA.

They don't tell you why. Of all the countries I visit (and the list is substantial) Cambodia is the only one they cared about and asked many, many questions in regards to travel. It could be anything that set them off at that given time. In my experiences if you're younger, traveling alone and able to travel outside the country for an extended period of time you are looked at more closely. But that wasn't it, it was specifically travel to Cambodia. Asked repeatedly about what the contents were on my laptop and small point-and-shoot camera. Where I went in the country and "why" I would visit there. They tore apart every bit of my luggage and read all paperwork. It was a bit scary being questioned by someone to who English was their 2nd language at best and unable to fully understand the answers you give them. This is entering the U.S.A. They seemed genuinely disappointed when I turned up clean. It's possible this special treatment in regards to Cambodia is only for U.S. citizens. Can only share my experience and have heard the same or similar from other U.S. travelers. Oddly enough Cambodia (at least Phnom Penh) in my eyes has never been cleaner than it is now. The difference between now and 5+ years ago is night and day. There's a HUGE influx of foreign investment. |

"This action came quite soon after Sweden gifted a $59.4 million package of financial aid to Cambodia and talks of possible bilateral trade between the US and Cambodia and between Sweden and Cambodia. In 2009, all co-founders were sentenced to a year in prison for copyright infringement. Warg, however, did not appear in an appeal hearing in 2010. Instead, he skipped town to avoid the rigors (ha!) of the Swedish incarceration. He currently awaits deportation in a Cambodian detention center." BWAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! A "Cambodian detention center" I fucking love it! |

altough i think he should never be in prison... best he can do right now is server those 12 months in sweden, separated from the dangerous prisoners, not a big deal... they have computer, gym and all in their cells.. 12 months is not big deal considering his chances...
as long as his lawyers can assure he won't have any other problems after that... just sayin... |
