I could care less what happens in Syria. It's sad, but it's not our problem. If we get involved, it will surely piss off some group that will attack us at a later date claiming we shouldn't have interfered in an Arab matter.

The Russians are just worried about the exposure by the rebels of the weapons they sold the Assad regime over the years and maybe the weapons claimed Saddam sent there.

Putin is just making noise as usual diverting some attention from his own domestic problems or justifying Russia's own ill advised involvement in a civil war -- which is what the conflict in Syria has become.
