Pollsters earn money by keeping the results in the margin of error. It brings more traffic to the news sites if the race is very close. Nobody checks the accuracy of a poll from 3 months before an election.

If Obama or Romney was actually winning by 20%... the polls would still say it's a 3-5% spread. Look at actual data for a better indication. Employment numbers, new home buys, etc...

What polls are you reading? Every poll I've ever read puts Obama in the lead.

Here's an article about how Romney's people is telling people to ignore polling data because it's artificially inflated because of the recent convention.

http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/r...-election.html

This article puts the lead at 47/43.

Stop fearing a black planet. Vote Obama.

Unless the debates introduce voters to a Romney they've never seen, it's a slam dunk for Obama. I expect Romney to just tow the Republican line and be a bore. Obama, one of the greatest presidential speakers ever, will widen the gap after the first debate.

kane 09-10-2012 03:50 PM

The national poll aside (which has Obama at a slight lead) the electoral college map shows a huge advantage for Obama.

Obama basically has to win his strong and likely states and that will give him 241 electoral votes. If he then wins Florida he wins the election. If he loses Florida he can win any number of different combinations of states and still win.

Romney's strong and likely states only give him 191 electoral votes. He will need to win pretty much all of the battleground states in order to win and that is a very tall order to fill.

this. popular vote doesn't matter

in a heavily left learning or right leaning state if you don't have a contested congressional election no real point in voting

Yep,

I live in a state that is going to go to Obama no questions asked. So I will vote for the libertarian candidate, but I doubt he will pull 5% nationwide.

I have said for a while that the electoral college needs to be done away with it. All it does in encourage people not to vote and it encourages corruption.

Wow, looking at the way people are voting here, I guess it must be true for most people, There really isn't any money in porn :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

Obama will only get the votes of poor people, or mislead people. Lucky for him the economy is in horrible shape...

I don't doubt it, It's truely a shame...

Current combined popular vote polling:

RCP Average 8/22 - 9/9 -- -- 48.3 45.4 Obama +2.9

http://realclearpolitics.com/epolls/...bama-1171.html

In fact, the polls from that last few days show Obama up 5-6%.

mineistaken 09-10-2012 07:04 PM

your poll will deliver inaccurate results since a number of people here will vote for their favorite and not for the one they think will win :)

I agree. Fuck the EC. It (among other things) makes a mockery of our elections.

Obama will get the votes of educated people, people who read newspapers, people who are tired of war, people who value equality for all Americans, people who want health care, people who don't want medicare turned into a voucher program, people who don't think their daughters should be forced to deliver her rapist's baby, people who think science is a good thing, people who hate chickenhawk draft dodgers, people who remember what the last Republican administration did to us, etc.

Romney voters? Angry, non-college-educated white men.

Quote:

The nation?s shifting demographics have caused some Republican leaders to worry not only about the party?s future but about winning in November, particularly in key swing states such as Virginia and Nevada.

?The demographics race we?re losing badly,? said Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (S.C.). ?We?re not generating enough angry white guys to stay in business for the long term.?

On Tuesday, convention organizers ejected two attendees after they reportedly threw peanuts at a black CNN camerawoman and told her, ?This is how we feed animals.? Organizers called the conduct ?inexcusable and unacceptable.?

Why would the youth group ever vote for Romney?

They won't, but they might stay home and not vote at all in and some of the close states that could hurt Obama.

Obama has pretty much abandoned going after the independents except for in a few key states. He is now focusing his attention on getting the base fired up and getting them out to vote.

If he can do that he wins. If he can't it could be closer than some might think.

Shotsie 09-12-2012 04:39 AM

Romney and his team completely fucking botched this presidential campaign in every conceivable way. It's so bad it almost seems like they're doing it on purpose. His only chance of winning would've come from convincing moderately educated, fiscally conservative, socially centrist, white middle-class voters in the swing states that Obama was gonna tank the economy with his social programs. Yet, for some reason, he has this idea that he has to connect with these rural right-wing nutcases. Like the other day he was talking about how he won't let "them" take God off of American coins... who the fuck said anything about taking the word God off of the coins? Shit like that is gonna completely alienate him from the aforementioned population that was his only route to a win. And anyone with half a brain knows he doesn't believe in any of that shit, or anything for that matter; it's all pandering - as fake as his weird Ted Bundy laugh.

New York Times 538 blog is really the only required reading for this election.

http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/

They got Obama with an 80% chance of winning, which is a little generous, but I'd still say it's gonna be a landslide.

Out of about 10 toss up States, Obama just needs to win 2 or 3. In Electoral College votes it's not really a close race at this point though it is politics and two months is an eternity.
