GoDaddy knows when push comes to shove, most of their target demographic can be easily placated by giving them more discount coupons... that's likely what affected customers will get - a credit off future service and/or more coupons.
Recall about a year ago the widely publicized elephant killing controversy and lots of people saying they were going to leave, boycott, etc ... well fast-forward to now and GoDaddy seems to be doing just fine ... most all the threads I see on the domain forums regarding GoDaddy are regarding coupon codes and how to renew there for cheap.
Anyways, the biggest issue with using a domain registrar for hosting, in addition to the risk of putting all one's eggs in the same basket, is the hosting is usually outsourced to 3rd parties, and isn't the primary focus.
Lastly, GoDaddy despite the most recent problems, for low-budget shared hosting, seems to have a decent track record. Most shared hosts have several hours or more of downtime per year ... it's just that few ever hear about it, since many are small, lesser known companies.
