I think it's racist to 'see no color'. How can we challenge oppression based on race if we pretend that race doesn't exist as a social reality?

nerd moment, the reason why people who are part Black are deemed 'Black' is because back when Black people were considered property in the eyes of the law, it benefitted the lawmakers/white society to construct as many people as Black as was possible. The more Black people there were, the more free labor white people had access to. The opposite happened with Native peoples. Since being 'officially' Native meant that one would have access to treaty rights/membership in communities where land claims were partially based on population, it benefitted the lawmakers/white society to construct as few Native people as possible as..well, Native. Thus, a half white, half Native person was deemed legally 'non-(status) Native'. A half white, half Black person was deemed Black. A half Native, half Black person was deemed Black. Blood quantum laws weren't arbitrary.

Ultimately, you're right though. Race only exists in as far as it is real in it's consequences. Constructions of race have always been about power and $$$$

Something like 95% of blacks vote Democrat no matter what, probably goes up around 99% when the candidate is black (or half black at least lol).

They don't even have to be campaigned to, their vote is a lock every single time.

Not that color should matter in any event, but when we have persons claiming that he is NOT black then the rules have indeed changed in regards to tolerance.

Pretty sure when the Spice Girls were at their height, I saw people referring to Mel B as African American, despite the fact she is British, her mother is white and her father is from the Caribbean.

When Halle Berry won an Oscar much was made of it being a success for African Americans, ignoring the inconvenient fact she was brought up single-handedly by her white, British mother, with no input whatsoever from her African American deadbeat dad.

Surely a huge majority of Americans don't give a fuck about politics and don't understand most of the different parties policies. They just vote Obama because anything is better than the other guy (who comes across to us Brits as a proper dick).
