Spain to Send Troops to Catalonia?

Anyone here in Spain/Catalonia, what are your thoughts on this?

European Parliament vice-president proposes sending in military to prevent democratic referendum in Catalonia
http://www.helpcatalonia.cat/2012/09...president.html

"European Parliament vice-president, Spanish nationalist Alejo Vidal Quadras, asked the Spanish prime minister, Mariano Rajoy, that he choose any brigadier general, “preferably from the guardia civil,” to put a stop to Catalonia's independence process. “Besides fighting the resolution in the courts, we must take over the autonomous region. The Spanish government needs to get in contact with Mas and tell him that what he's doing is against the law, and if he does not change his mind we'll be forced to step in,” he said.

The European Parliament vice-president described Catalonia as a “rebellious autonomy.” When they asked him whether they should try to talk to the Catalans in order to come to an agreement, he gave a definite ‘no’ for an answer. “The time has come for the Spanish state to use one of its tools, namely the commesurate and legitimate use of force.”"

Double standards as usually. While same that Spain is sending troops and airplanes to bomb and attack in Balkans where similar things happened.

Would Barcelona still play Real Madrid?

Catalonia is my most favourite place in the world.

I love the people there, love spending my time there but I don't see the depth of their problems personally so there is no point in me putting my thoughts on that here unless any of them would wish to explain it to me.

Reminds me of Quebec, but this has been going on a lot longer.

Yes, but only in the champions league :eek7

They get taxed more than the rest of Spain, now they're having to pay off Spanish debt and go through Austerity Measures, in theory if they were independent they would all (in Catalonia) have a better standard of living :2 cents:

It worked fine for Kosovo, but doesn't work for the Catalonia? Do the EU leaders use double standards? I can't believe in that! Oh please god, wake me :1orglaugh

P.S. Love Barcelona and Catalans. Actually Catalonia is that only place where I prefer to spent my time. I'm even planned to move there completely someday.

They do pay more tax because they set their own 'province' tax rate, which is higher than everywhere else. The national tax rate is the same for everyone.

I love the place lived in Barca for 2 years, but left because the language fucked me off.
Schools teach in dialect not Spanish, doctors talk to you in Catalan even if you tell them you dont speak it.

scottybuzz 09-29-2012 07:41 AM

I live in Barcelona. I am English. So not my war.

Lot's of people care big time though. this is just the beginning. Shit is about to go down. You can tell that from talking to people and seeing how passionate people are about this and the actions from previous demonstrations.

Spain won the euro cup and many people here did not celebrate (although a lot did).

Also catalan president said they will do a vote on it. For this he could go to jail. So yes this is getting quite important.

p.s. barca president said barca would still play in Spanish league. A league with Girona, Espayol, Tarragona and Barcelona... hahahaha

How outrageous that they don't discard their own language (it's not a 'dialect' you dumb fuck), which was suppressed for decades, just to keep ignorant lazy cunts like you happy.

Madrid history: fascist/Monarchist.
Catalunya/Barcelona history: anarchist/Republican.

It's a no-brainer who to support.

I've never heard of Catalonia. It looks beautiful.

Can someone explain to me why Catalonia wants to break away from Spain? Wikipedia was vague about it.

Exactly. You should add arming muslims in Kosovo that terrorized Serbs and was backed up and trained by NATO (US and Germany).

Historically: Cataluyna was it's own country then a dictator came along (Franco) and bitch slapped them for a while. He died. All became "ok". They want to become independent again.

Now: Spain is in economic crisis. Cataluyna is not. It is the Catalans paying the most taxes and bailing out the Spanish.

Example: the motorways in Spain are free. In Cataluyna (and Madrid) people have to pay. General things like this are pissing the people off. Why work harder and pay more taxes than someone who lives in another region?

Also ---- I am certainly no genius at this. Please don't take my word for truth.. I am just repeating what I hear on the streets. It is best to ask someone who is catalan. thanks.

Dude is a right wing nutbar, no one cares.

And "Spanish troops" are already there considering it's part of the national territory

That is totally incorrect, Catalunya has never been a country or state, originally the fell under the umbrella of the kingdom of Aragon.:2 cents:

Fuck off.
Spanish is one of the official languages of the place, they should speak to you in it. About 50% of the population dont speak Catalan.

The catalans have no bollocks, if they did they'd do what the basques did, fucking fight for it. As usual it comes down to $ with them, must be the french in them.

I dont think technically its ever existed as country.

The Romans had it, then the Visigoths, then the French, Kingdom of Aragon then Spain.

and you do have to pay for 'toll' motorways all over Spain, or are you talking some sort of congestion charge, like they have in London?

sperbonzo 10-02-2012 10:31 AM

It's the Catalan Spring!
