Payment methods in the UK?

For NL there's iDeal, Belgium has Mr Cash, Germany has Giropay.

What is there for the UK? Is it well known there and the number 1 choice of payment by customers?

Paypal is not a real option since we sell digital items.

Anybody?

http://www.nochex.com/ started off the back of adult.
Then they went all clean, not sure the status now.
Theres also ukash.. which allows paypoint terminals in shops to be used. (and used for age verification)

As someone from the UK the only thing I would usually use is PayPal, Credit Card or Debit Card. Occasionally and I mean very occasionally I would use direct debit (bank transfer) but that is rare and think online I've only ever done that twice before.

Nochex is something I used probably about 8 years ago when one supplier would only accept that for an online service, it's not something I've seen round much either.

We sell digital items, hence too risky to use Paypal or Credit Cards. We'd hate people to chargeback for fun.

Maybe we should look into the % of people that take joy in fraudulent activities.

True.
PayPal is a very big risk if it is your personal account.

debit card
credit card
phone payment (Premium SMS or Premium Rate number)

and then all those ukash things WAAAAY down the list. WAAAAY down.

gimme-website 10-01-2012 05:29 AM

Well you can load ukash online too... And they were targeting some adult markets.

Theres also http://www.glpayment.co.uk/ who dotn ask many questions.... BUt like all these micro payment gateways i know plenty of people who have had problems getting their money.

Im not sure what the question is.
What do brits like to use?? Their credit or debit cards.
Or what british payent gateways are there?

Naughty 10-01-2012 06:36 AM

@gimme: question is what do brits like to use.
It's not for adult material either.

Thanks Damian, have to look into phone billing, last time we checked that (10 years ago) you could only charge a little amount per unit, so if you wanted to charge 50$ you'd have to send multiple SMS msgs or something. Maybe that changed.

Yes indeed. Imagine that, something changing in 10 years!

In the UK you can now do single drop SMS for £10.

And you can get it to rebill too.

itelebill.com ftw.

billbailey 10-02-2012 10:32 AM

I think sms billing will be huge in the future
